Civil Engineering Intern

AECOM SA (Pty) Ltd invites applications from currently enrolled National Diploma students in Civil Engineering who are required to complete their P1 and/or P2 practical training as part of their qualification requirements. The intern will be exposed to a live, complex infrastructure project and will be supported by a qualified supervisor throughout the placement.

The intern will be exposed to, and will assist with, the following activities under the supervision of a qualified Civil Engineer:

Project Familiarisation

• Introduction to the project scope, design documentation, and AECOM's quality management system.

Civil Engineering Fundamentals

• Exposure to earthworks, materials, and structural principles as applied to dam and associated infrastructure design.

Drafting and Detailing

• Assisting with the preparation of basic engineering drawings and schedules under supervision.

Site Exposure

• Where applicable, exposure to construction site activities to contextualise design decisions.

Technical Reporting

• Assisting with the compilation of technical reports, data capture, and document management.

Health, Safety and Environment

• Introduction to project-specific health, safety, and environmental requirements.

• Currently enrolled in a National Diploma in Civil Engineering at a recognised University of Technology. Must require P1 and/or P2 practical training as a formal component of the qualification.
• Must be in good academic standing. Applicants must submit their most recent academic transcripts with their application.
• No prior work experience required. Tertiary-level knowledge and coursework is sufficient.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Exposure to AutoCAD or Civil 3D is advantageous.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Must be available for the full duration of the placement (6 or 12 months) as confirmed by the University of Technology.

A monthly stipend will be provided in accordance with the CIDB Standard for Developing Skills Through Infrastructure Contracts (April 2026).
