Job description
We’re seeking a caring and reliable Dental Assistant to support our clinicians in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You’ll assist chairside, prepare rooms and equipment, and help create a calm and welcoming experience for every patient.
What You Will Be Doing
- Provide chairside clinical assistance to Dentists and Oral Health Therapists across a range of procedures
- Prepare surgeries, instruments and equipment in line with infection control and sterilisation standards
- Maintain accurate treatment notes, sterilisation logs and clinical documentation
- Ensure operatories are clean, stocked and ready for each scheduled patient, and contribute to daily team huddles
- Support patient comfort, communication and education throughout appointments
- Maintain stock levels, assist with ordering and coordinate laboratory work requirements
- Report equipment faults and support routine maintenance processes
- Assist with reception and patient support duties when required
- Collaborate with practice and support office teams as needed
- Follow NDC policies and procedures relating to infection control, WHS, QA, HR and emergency preparedness
- Participate in ongoing training, development and performance review activities
- Contribute positively to a supportive, team-focused clinical environment
Senior Dental Assistant (where applicable)
- Provide training, guidance and support to junior team members
- Ensure radiation safety protocols are followed
- Oversee lab case coordination and assist with advanced stock management
- Support the Practice Manager with delegated clinical or administrative tasks

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 12 months’ experience as a Dental Assistant
- Experience supporting general and chairside dentistry (e.g., paediatrics, endodontics, restorative)
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting.
- Experience in dental practice administration or reception.
- Experience using Dental4Windows (D4W) or similar practice software
Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical understanding of dental procedures, workflows and infection control protocols
- Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy in record-keeping and strong organisational capability
- Ability to understand and apply policies, legislation and clinical guidelines
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands in a busy clinical setting
- Confident computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and practice software
