Job description
Position Overview
We are looking for a Financial Accountant who will support the Finance function in MDPI’s Belgrade office by keeping accurate financial records, supporting month-end closing and ensuring compliance with Serbian accounting and tax requirements. The role covers day-to-day accounting, reconciliations, VAT and corporate tax matters, reporting support and coordination with the external accounting provider and the global finance team.
Core Responsibilities
•
Support and review bookkeeping activities to ensure they are in line with Serbian accounting standards and internal group accounting policies
•
Review and verify accounting reports before management approval and upload to the internal finance system
•
Coordinate with the external accounting provider for monthly, quarterly and annual closings
•
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and follow up on differences
•
Check VAT treatment of transactions and support VAT filings and statutory reporting
•
Support the preparation of annual financial statements and corporate income tax returns
•
Liaise with auditors during internal and external audits, identify any missing invoices and check payroll data together with the external accounting provider and HR
•
Prepare monthly cost files, weekly cost reports, forecast files and monthly intercompany invoices
•
Set up internal accounting processes, including bookkeeping, invoice processing, VAT reporting and general ledger reconciliations
Requirements
•
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics or equivalent
•
3-5 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably in an international environment
•
Strong English skills in written and spoken language
•
Knowledge of Serbian accounting standards (IFRS knowledge is a plus)
•
VAT and corporate income tax regulations
•
Experience working with external accounting providers
•
Attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies in financial data
