Position Overview
The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of Safetrust Vietnam while ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements and alignment with global accounting standards.
This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and payroll operations across Vietnam and supporting month-end close activities.
The Staff Accountant will own end-to-end payroll processing for Vietnam ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
This role will also support the evaluation and future implementation of a global payroll system, partnering with Finance and HR to transition from current in-house and QuickBooks processes to a more scalable solution.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Operations
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in compliance with VAS and company policies
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close
- Record payroll, AP, and AR transactions accurately within the general ledger
- Assist in preparing financial reports for local and global reporting (aligned with IFRS/US GAAP where applicable)
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries
- Ensure proper documentation and retention of accounting records in accordance with Vietnamese regulations
Payroll Administration - Vietnam
- Process end-to-end monthly payroll for Vietnam employees in compliance with Vietnam Labor Code
- Calculate salaries, allowances, overtime, bonuses, and statutory deductions
- Ensure timely and accurate calculation and filing of:
- Personal Income Tax (PIT)
- Social Insurance (SI), Health Insurance (HI), and Unemployment Insurance (UI)
- Partner with HR to validate employee data, contracts, and compensation changes
- Manage payroll disbursements and reporting
- Support labor audits, tax inspections, and statutory reporting
- Ensure strict confidentiality of employee data
Payroll Systems & Future State Transition
- Support evaluation and implementation of a global payroll platform (e.g., Papaya Global or similar)
- Assist in documenting current payroll processes and identifying gaps or inefficiencies
- Participate in system testing, data validation, and process transition activities
- Help establish scalable, compliant payroll processes across Vietnam and Australia
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Process vendor invoices and ensure proper approvals
- Validate VAT compliance for invoices
- Manage payment scheduling and vendor reconciliations
- Resolve discrepancies and maintain vendor relationships
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Issue invoices in compliance with local regulations
- Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding balances
- Apply payments and reconcile accounts
- Support collections and aging analysis
Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Vietnamese tax regulations (VAT, PIT, CIT)
- Support statutory filings and reporting
- Ensure payroll practices align with Vietnam Labor Law requirements
- Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory inspections
- Support internal controls and financial governance
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll and accounting processes
- Support implementation and optimization of financial systems (ERP, payroll platforms)
- Collaborate with HR and global finance teams to ensure accurate data flow
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–6 years of accounting experience, including:
- Hands-on Vietnam payroll processing (required)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Vietnam Accounting Standards (VAS)
- Vietnam Labor Law and payroll regulations
- Tax regulations (PIT, VAT, SI/HI/UI)
- Familiarity with Netsuite
- Familiarity with Inventory and inventory adjustments.
- Exposure to global payroll systems or implementations is a plus
- Basic understanding of IFRS or US GAAP is preferred

- Full adherence to Vietnam Labor Law, including proper application of working hours, overtime, and employee entitlements
- Accurate calculation, reporting, and timely submission of:
- Personal Income Tax (PIT)
- Social Insurance (SI), Health Insurance (HI), and Unemployment Insurance (UI)
- Australia payroll is managed effectively through QuickBooks, ensuring compliance with:
- Superannuation
- PAYG withholding
- Fair Work requirements
- All employee payroll data is handled with strict confidentiality and integrity
- Employee leave, public holidays, and benefits are administered in alignment with Vietnamese labor law requirements
- Payroll discrepancies are minimal, identified quickly, and resolved proactively
- Financial records related to payroll, AP, and AR are accurate, complete, and audit-ready
- Strong coordination with HR and global finance teams ensures accurate employee data and seamless payroll execution
- Processes are continuously reviewed and improved to support scalability and future payroll system implementation
