Role Overview

As part of the beqom engineering team, you will contribute to software that supports pay fairness for employees around the world - while bringing your technical skills to make it scalable, performant, and high-quality.

Your mission will be to build, enhance, debug, and maintain the back end of the beqom SaaS application, used by 100+ customers globally. You’ll work in an agile, iterative environment, mentoring other engineers and helping raise the bar on testing, automation, and code quality across the team.

This role is for someone who brings both strong engineering fundamentals and genuine comfort with statistical and analytical work - someone who doesn’t just check whether the code runs, but whether the output is actually correct.

What you'll be doing

• Technical Leadership
• Drive the technical vision and strategy for the team, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and architecture strategy.
• Oversee architectural decisions and provide direction on software design, development frameworks, and best practices.
• Lead code reviews and help maintain high standards of code quality, performance, and reliability.
• Refine and enforce good software security practices at every stage of the development.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends (e.g. IA) to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation.
• Project Management
• Translate product requirements into clear technical tasks and actionable project plans.
• Work closely with the Product Manager to translate product requirements into technical tasks and actionable implementation plans.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Monitor progress, manage risks, and communicate status updates to stakeholders effectively.
• Manage the team’s agile ceremonies and continuous improvements.
• Ensure on-time and high-quality product releases that meet the agreed criteria.
• Team Management & Development
• Mentor and coach a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and identify opportunities for professional development.
• Create an environment that values collaboration, creativity, and diverse perspectives.
• Promote best practices and processes that empower team members to take ownership and produce their best work.
• Assist the Engineering Manager for the recruitment.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Product Management, QA, UX, and other departments to plan and deliver on product roadmap goals.
• Act as a key stakeholder in technical discussions and a representative of the engineering team in broader company initiatives.
• Communicate effectively across teams to resolve dependencies, align priorities, and manage expectations.
• Operational Excellence
• Establish and maintain processes and tools to streamline development processes.
• Implement and monitor metrics for performance, availability, and reliability, proactively addressing any issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes, tooling, and automation.

Skills & Experience

What you'll bring

Technical

• Demonstrated senior-level expertise in Software Engineering with proven back-end experience.
• Strong Python fundamentals — you understand the language deeply, not just one framework on top of it.
• Hands-on experience with Django (our primary framework).
• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar), including query optimisation and migrations.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs at scale.
• Solid testing practice — unit and integration — with a real care for correctness on numerical and analytical code.

Domain

• Comfortable around applied statistics — you don't need to be a data scientist, but you shouldn't be intimidated by a codebase that uses regressions, distributions, and p-values.
• Analytical execution — you'll partner with domain experts to implement new statistical models and maintain our existing analytical engine, figuring out how the pieces connect and using your intuition to catch when an output feels subtly wrong.

AI mindset

• An active, opinionated user of AI coding assistants — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar — in your daily work.
• Genuine curiosity about how AI can be embedded into user-facing products, beyond developer tooling.

Ways of working

• Fluent in English, written and spoken; additional languages are a plus.
• Strong communicator and collaborative team player.
• Proactive, open-minded, and comfortable taking ownership of the projects you work on.

Bonus points if you have

• Experience with Java.
• Experience with data pipelines, ETL, or large-scale data processing.
• Experience with statistical or scientific Python libraries (NumPy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels).
• Experience building or integrating AI-powered features — LLM APIs, embeddings, prompt design, agent workflows, or MCP.
• Experience with WebSockets or event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of security and compliance (GDPR, SOC2) — compensation data is sensitive.
