Arctic Fresh Projects Inc. is currently seeking a Safety Coordinator to join our team in Iqaluit, Nunavut. This role is essential in supporting our strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with applicable territorial regulations, and equipping workers with the knowledge, training, and resources needed to perform their work safely.
As a member of the Arctic Fresh Projects team, the Safety Coordinator will work closely with Penn-co Construction, AFP's construction partner and a recognized leader in the construction industry. Through this collaborative partnership, the successful candidate will work alongside project teams and Penn-co Construction's Safety Team to support safety initiatives, promote best practices, and foster a proactive culture of safety across all operations.
Based in Iqaluit, this position will require occasional travel to project sites and communities throughout Nunavut. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of complex projects while supporting the strong operational alignment between Arctic Fresh Projects and Penn-co Construction.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain AFP’s safety program in accordance with territorial legislation, COR standards and internal policies.
- Champion safety on our projects by promoting awareness, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to construction site teams in the implementation of safety measures and practices.
- Participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses while assisting in corrective action planning and documentation.
- Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to proactively manage safety compliance.
- Participate in the annual COR audit process and assist in maintaining certification.
- Travel to remote project sites for safety inspections, support and collaboration with field teams.
Qualifications
- NCSO designation, similar certification, or actively working toward certification.
- Safety experience in the construction industry.
- Solid understanding of construction safety regulations and best practices.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and educate employees at all levels.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Ability to travel by plane to project sites and communities throughout Nunavut and work flexible hours as required.
- Knowledge of Nunavut's regulatory environment and experience working in northern or remote communities is considered an asset.
- Understanding of Inuit culture and the ability to build positive relationships within Nunavut communities is considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively in Inuktitut is strongly preferred.
- Priority will be given to candidates who are Inuit Land Beneficiaries, in alignment with Employment Equity principles for Nunavut.
