Job description

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) – Opening Soon in St. John’s, NL

Galaxy Vets Urgent Care & Walk-In: Newfoundland is opening soon and will be part of the Galaxy Vets family—a new employee-centric healthcare system with a mission to give veterinary medicine back to veterinary professionals.

This Is Not a Traditional Technician Role

We are hiring an RVT who wants to practice at the top of their scope in a fast-paced urgent care environment.

At Galaxy Vets, RVTs are clinical leaders, not assistants to assistants. You are a medical decision-support partner to the DVM and a driver of patient care standards.

If you're looking for a place where your skills are underutilized, this isn't it.

If you want autonomy, ownership, and the opportunity to help build a brand-new hospital from the ground up, then keep reading.

What Makes This Role Different

Each shift, you are a key clinical pillar.

You will

  • Lead anesthesia and patient monitoring
  • Perform venipuncture and place IV catheters confidently
  • Initiate and manage fluid therapy
  • Execute radiology safely and efficiently
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and escalate concerns
  • Educate clients clearly and compassionately
  • Support surgical flow and sterile technique
  • Help refine clinical processes and standards
  • Contribute to building the culture and workflow of a new hospital

You are empowered to practice to the full extent of your training and registration.

What We're Looking For

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (in good standing)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of direct patient care experience preferred
  • Strong anesthesia, catheter placement, and diagnostic support skills
  • Confidence in urgent or high-pressure situations
  • Excellent client communication skills
  • A teammate who takes initiative and thinks critically
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required (we believe in fair rotation)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a clinical environment, including bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, moving from room to room, and sitting; may be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Most importantly: someone who believes their role impacts the success of the entire hospital

Why Join During the Opening Phase?

Opening a new hospital is a unique opportunity.

You'll help shape

  • Clinical workflows
  • Patient care standards
  • Team culture
  • Training processes
  • The client experience from day one

Your voice matters, and your ideas won't get lost in layers of bureaucracy.

Our Core Values (And Yes, We Mean Them)

🧠 Owner's Mindset – We act like this is our business. Because it is.

🦸 Sees the Big Picture – We are part of a larger network, not just one clinic.

🌍 Always Evolving – We continuously look for opportunities to improve ourselves, our hospitals, and our profession.

💥 Lead with Integrity – We do the right thing, even when nobody's watching.

😂 Sense of Humour – We support each other, celebrate wins, and keep perspective when things get busy.

The Essentials

  • $29–$35/hour (based on experience, skills, and involvement with the bigger picture)
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Participation in the Employee Ownership Trust
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development

Ready to Help Build Something Different?

If you're ready to practice high-level medicine, work alongside a supportive team, and help launch a brand-new urgent care hospital in St. John's, we'd love to meet you.

Apply today and help us bring a new model of veterinary medicine to Newfoundland. 🐾
