Director of Advancement CommunicationsThe Director of Advancement Communications is a senior communications leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, omnichannel communications strategy that advances Bronson Health Foundation’s fundraising priorities, donor engagement efforts, and campaign readiness.
This role serves as the Foundation’s lead storyteller and strategic communications partner, translating clinical excellence, innovation, patient outcomes, and community impact into compelling narratives that inspire philanthropic investment. The Director works collaboratively across major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, stewardship, campaigns, and events to create a cohesive donor experience that strengthens engagement and trust.
As Bronson Health Foundation continues to grow its philanthropic reach and prepare for future campaign initiatives, this position plays a critical role in elevating advancement communications, strengthening donor-centered storytelling, and aligning messaging strategies that support sustainable fundraising growth.
Essential Responsibilities
Advancement Communications Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and lead a comprehensive advancement communications strategy aligned with fundraising priorities, donor engagement goals, and campaign initiatives.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Vice President & Chief Development Officer and Foundation leadership on donor messaging, positioning, and communication strategy.
- Establish editorial standards, messaging frameworks, and communication priorities for philanthropic communications.
- Ensure alignment and integration across all fundraising functions including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, stewardship, campaigns, and events.
- Build communications strategies that support donor acquisition, retention, stewardship, and long-term engagement.
Campaign Communications & Case Development
- Lead communications planning and execution for campaign initiatives, including silent and public campaign phases.
- Oversee development of campaign messaging, case for support materials, donor proposals, naming opportunity communications, presentations, and funding narratives.
- Collaborate with Foundation leadership, clinicians, and operational leaders to translate complex healthcare initiatives into compelling philanthropic opportunities.
- Ensure campaign communications reflect organizational priorities, donor motivations, and community impact.
Content Development & Storytelling
- Serve as lead writer and editor for donor-facing materials including proposals, newsletters, appeals, annual reports, stewardship communications, executive messages, speeches, and presentations.
- Develop and oversee multimedia storytelling strategies across print, digital, social, video, and web platforms.
- Conduct interviews with patients, clinicians, donors, caregivers, and leadership to develop authentic and impactful stories.
- Ensure all communications consistently reflect the Foundation’s mission, values, brand standards, and strategic direction.
- Translate complex clinical, operational, and philanthropic concepts into accessible, emotionally compelling donor-focused messaging.
Donor Experience & Stewardship Communications
- Design communications strategies that strengthen the donor journey from cultivation through stewardship and recognition.
- Partner closely with stewardship, major gifts, annual giving, and planned giving teams to ensure coordinated and meaningful donor engagement.
- Oversee development of stewardship reports, impact communications, recognition initiatives, and donor acknowledgment strategies.
- Continuously evaluate donor communication effectiveness and recommend improvements to enhance engagement and retention.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build strong collaborative relationships with Marketing, Communications, Creative Services, and Digital teams to maximize alignment and shared resources.
- Partner with fundraising teams to support strategic donor communications and fundraising initiatives.
- Engage executive, operational, and clinical leaders to develop compelling narratives around strategic priorities and patient impact.
- Serve as a connector across departments to ensure consistency, clarity, and strategic alignment in advancement messaging.
Project Management & Operational Execution
- Oversee advancement communications calendars, production timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships.
- Manage complex communication projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Ensure all materials are delivered with exceptional quality, accuracy, professionalism, and timeliness.
- Utilize analytics and performance data to evaluate effectiveness and continuously improve communication strategies.
- Support implementation of systems and workflows that improve operational efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
- 10–15+ years of progressively responsible experience in advancement communications, fundraising communications, healthcare communications, or related field.
- Demonstrated success leading communications strategy for fundraising campaigns or large-scale donor engagement initiatives.
- Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, and presentation development skills.
- Strong strategic thinking and project management capabilities.
- Experience collaborating with senior executives, clinicians, fundraising professionals, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling donor-centered narratives.
Preferred
- Healthcare philanthropy, academic medicine, or higher education advancement experience.
- Experience supporting or leading comprehensive fundraising campaigns.
- Familiarity with donor databases, CRM systems, communications segmentation, and analytics.
- Experience with omnichannel donor engagement and digital fundraising communications.
