The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Sr. Manager, Sponsored Programs to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.  Remote or Hybrid opportunity.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                                                                                   

The Sr. Manager, Sponsored Programs directs and oversees all administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs division at the assigned facilities. The Sr. Manager operates with the goals of increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposal, as well as maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars. Further, the incumbent develops and implements policies and methods that further these goals.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                     

Identifies potential donors or sources of funding and plans outreach strategies. Participates in the development of grants applications and proposals. Schedules and oversees planning for special events that publicize the organization and its programs to the community. Trains, mentors, and supervises sponsored programs staff members, and prepares performance reports. Negotiates contractual provisions with potential partners. Develops and provides reports or documentation needed to secure and maintain funding and grants. Ensures that grants and contracts adhere to organizational standards. Acts as department expert and primary point of contact on funding issues and disputes. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                    

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

Department Specifics:

This position is responsible for operational execution of post-award functions and does not include pre-award or proposal development responsibilities.

Post-Award Operations & Financial Management

  • Oversee day-to-day post-award activities, including expenditure review, account reconciliation, financial reporting, forecasting, effort certification, and award closeout
  • Ensure timely and accurate execution of financial transactions and reporting across the sponsored portfolio
  • Monitor portfolio activity and escalate risks or issues to the Director, Sponsored Programs as appropriate

Compliance & Financial Stewardship

  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations (OMB Uniform Guidance, CAS, FAR), sponsor terms, and institutional policies
  • Provide guidance on allowable and unallowable costs and proper financial management of sponsored awards
  • Support audit readiness and compliance monitoring activities

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop Post-Award staff, ensuring high-quality, responsive service delivery
  • Establish performance expectations, monitor outcomes, and support staff development
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of team members

Process Implementation & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement policies, procedures, and operational workflows established by Sponsored Programs leadership
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency within post-award functions
  • Support system optimization efforts

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for faculty and departments on post-award financial administration
  • Partner with central offices (ORA, AP, Procurement, HR) to resolve issues and ensure coordinated support
  • Maintain strong, service-oriented relationships across the Cancer Center

Training & Education

  • Support development and delivery of post-award training programs for faculty and staff
  • Reinforce best practices in financial management and compliance

Systems & Transaction Oversight

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Workday Financials
  • Review and approve financial transactions (requisitions, expense reports, purchase orders) in accordance with institutional policies
