Job description

Job Summary

The Neurology Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced clinical care to patients with neurological conditions under the supervision and collaboration of a neurologist. This role includes conducting comprehensive evaluations, managing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing ongoing patient education and follow-up care in an outpatient neurology clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and patient evaluations.
  • Diagnose and manage neurological conditions, including those resulting from TBI-related injuries .
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans in collaboration with neurologists.
  • Prescribe medications, injections, and therapies in accordance with Texas scope-of-practice laws .
  • Order, review, and interpret diagnostic studies (EEG, imaging, labs) and communicate results to patients.

Patient Management & Education

  • Provide patient and caregiver education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Conduct follow-up visits and monitor treatment outcomes.
  • Address patient questions and concerns with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate closely with neurologists, medical assistants, EEG technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Ensure compliance with clinic policies, HIPAA regulations, and all applicable federal and state standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP).
  • Active Texas Nurse Practitioner license in good standing.
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (ANCC or AANP).
  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in neurology, neuroscience, or specialty outpatient clinics .
  • Familiarity with EEG workflows and neurological diagnostics.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent patient communication and education skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with physicians.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced specialty clinic environment.
