JOB SUMMARY
The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and proactive maintenance of all stationary and mobile equipment within a Ready-Mix concrete facility. This role is critical to ensuring "Safety First" operations while minimizing plant downtime and maximizing production yield.
You will be tasked with maintaining the mechanical integrity of the batch plant, including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, and pneumatic systems—while also performing facility-wide maintenance involving electrical, plumbing, and structural fabrication. The successful candidate acts as a key partner to the Plant Manager, ensuring all equipment meets Martin Marietta’s rigorous standards and regulatory requirements (OSHA).
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, repair, and replace components on conveyor systems, shakers, pumps, and gearboxes to ensure continuous plant flow.
- Maintain and calibrate batching equipment, including scales, gate rams, aerators, and admixture dispensers.
- Troubleshoot and repair air compressors, cylinders, and valves essential for the operation of bin gates and material discharge.
- Perform mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on rolling stock such as front-end loaders, skid steers, and occasionally assist with minor mixer truck repairs.
- Complete all lubrication, filter changes, and inspections according to the company’s Maintenance Module and schedule.
- Study equipment performance trends to identify systemic maintenance needs and suggest upgrades to improve plant availability and yield.
- Review and prioritize the maintenance backlog with the Supervisor/Plant Manager to address critical repairs during scheduled downtime.
- Perform professional-grade MIG/Stick welding and torch cutting for equipment fabrication, structural repair, and plant erection.
- Use electrical and pressure testing equipment to diagnose malfunctions in electrical circuits or hydraulic lines.
- Manage general facility maintenance including basic plumbing, lighting, and structural integrity of bins and silos.
- Conduct daily pre-shift safety inspections of equipment and work areas; identify and mitigate potential hazards immediately.
- Ensure all work complies with Martin Marietta safety standards, as well as OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of all maintenance activities, parts used, and safety inspections within the company’s digital tracking systems.
- Partner with outside vendors to procure specialty parts or specialized technical support for complex repairs.
- Operate mobile equipment (loaders, man-lifts) as needed to support production or facilitate repairs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience
Work Experience
1+ years of experience related to Heavy-Duty Maintenance jobs or equivalent combination of training and experience, preferably in Ready-Mix

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.
Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.
Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
Plant Maintenance Technicians are required to provide their own hand tools.
