Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a hands-on financial leadership role at a large, multi-campus faith-based organization. You'll own the full accounting function, from payroll and accounts payable to budgeting, reporting, and audit coordination, while also serving as a strategic partner to the CFO and senior leadership team.

The organization runs complex financial operations across multiple locations. Your job is to keep those operations clean, compliant, and well-communicated. That means strong GAAP knowledge, comfort with ERP systems, and the ability to translate numbers into clear insights for leaders who aren't accountants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Operations

  • Direct the full accounting function, including accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and organizational financial policies.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact with external auditors.

Financial Reporting & Forecasting

  • Prepare financial statements and forecasting reports across multiple campuses and departments.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights that support leadership decision-making.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, accessible summaries for non-financial leaders.

Budgeting & Planning

  • Oversee the annual budgeting process in collaboration with campus and senior leaders.
  • Monitor budget performance and flag variances with context and recommendations.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and planning to support ongoing operations.

Asset & Plan Management

  • Monitor and manage the performance of invested assets against established objectives.
  • Manage the organization's retirement plans and prepare all required reports.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor the accounting staff team.
  • Build a team culture that values accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Nonprofit or church accounting experience is a plus.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with retirement plan reporting and invested asset management.

Leadership & Communication

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator who can work collaboratively with campus leaders and executives.
  • Ability to translate financial complexity into clear language for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Louisville, Kentucky. You'll work within a mission-driven organization that holds its staff to a clear set of values: Honor, Care, Accountability, Grit, Authenticity, Humility, and a genuine sense of community. Alignment with the organization's faith-based mission and values is an expectation for this role.
