General Sales Manager (Automotive)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Sales Manager to lead our automotive sales team and drive dealership performance. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with a strong track record in automotive sales management, team development, customer satisfaction, and profitability. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the sales department, including new and pre-owned vehicle sales, sales processes, inventory management, performance coaching, and achieving revenue goals.
Key Responsibilities
•
Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing sales team to achieve and exceed sales objectives.
•
Manage daily operations of the sales department, ensuring efficiency and adherence to dealership standards.
•
Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate sales managers and sales consultants.
•
Monitor sales performance metrics, establish goals, and implement strategies to maximize profitability.
•
Collaborate with the Finance & Insurance (F&I) department to optimize customer experience and dealership revenue.
•
Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and inventory levels to develop effective sales strategies.
•
Ensure compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable regulations.
•
Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and address escalated customer concerns when necessary.
•
Oversee inventory management and vehicle merchandising to support sales objectives.
•
Conduct regular sales meetings, performance reviews, and training sessions.
•
Develop and maintain relationships with customers, community partners, and manufacturer representatives.
•
Forecast sales volumes and prepare reports for executive leadership.
Qualifications
•
Minimum of 5 years of automotive sales management experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
•
Proven success in achieving sales targets and driving dealership profitability.
•
Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
•
Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service abilities.
•
Knowledge of automotive retail operations, CRM systems, desking tools, and dealership management software.
•
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
•
Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
Preferred Skills
•
Experience managing both new and used vehicle operations.
•
Strong understanding of digital retailing and lead management processes.
•
Ability to interpret financial statements and departmental KPIs.
•
Experience with manufacturer programs and performance standards.
