Job Summary and Responsibilities

Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

As our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse, you will provide life-saving care to critically ill patients, managing complex, multi-system illnesses and injuries with advanced technology and expert clinical judgment. Every day you will perform meticulous assessments, implement sophisticated interventions, and continuously monitor unstable patients requiring the highest level of nursing care. You will be expected to supervise care according to policies, procedures, and the State Nurse Practice Act. To be successful in this role, you must be a highly skilled and resilient caregiver, adept at critical thinking, rapid decision-making, and providing compassionate support to both patients and their families in a high-acuity environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patients with life-threatening conditions, requiring continuous physiological monitoring, invasive and non-invasive life support, and complex medication regimens.
  • Implement and manage individualized care plans for various critical illnesses and injuries, including but not limited to sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, multi-organ dysfunction, and post-surgical complications.
  • Perform advanced assessments, interpret complex diagnostic data (e.g., hemodynamic waveforms, lab results, ventilator settings), adjust interventions based on patient response, and swiftly recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate effectively with intensivists, hospitalists, specialized therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, holistic care and optimal outcomes for critically ill patients.
  • Manage advanced life support equipment and technologies, including mechanical ventilators, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), vasoactive drips, and intra-aortic balloon pumps, ensuring their safe and effective operation.
  • Provide clear and empathetic communication to patients and their families, offering education, emotional support, and facilitating end-of-life discussions or decision-making in highly stressful situations.

THIS JOB OFFERS BOTH AN INCENTIVE AND RELOCATION: We are offering a $17,500 Sign-On Bonus in addition to relocation to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

Union Work Agreement

Shift Type/Length: Rotating days/nights, 12 hour shifts

On Call Expectations: None

Weekend/Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend/Every other holiday

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Nursing Degree from an approved school of nursing
  • New grads welcome to apply!
  • LICENSURE Active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing or Active Registered Nurse license in a compact state
  • Working knowledge of critical care nursing principles, advanced physiological assessment, and management of life-sustaining technologies
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certifications within the orientation period and meets re-certification as required
  • Good communication skills necessary for constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, medical staff, and employees
  • Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors, and patients
  • Maintains confidentiality
