Job Description

As a Security Officer Access Verification in Portsmouth, VA , you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Government, and more. As an Access Control Officer in a government location, you will monitor entry points, verify credentials, and help manage authorized access while supporting a professional and welcoming environment. This role combines visible presence, routine patrols, and strong communication to help reduce security-related incidents. What You'll Do

• Provide customer service by carrying out access control procedures, site-specific policies, and/or emergency response activities at a government location.
• Monitor entry and exit points, verify identification and credentials, and document visitor, contractor, and vehicle activity in accordance with post instructions.
• Respond to incidents, suspicious activity, and/or critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, escalating concerns through appropriate channels as needed.
• Conduct regular and random patrols around buildings, gates, docks, restricted areas, and the perimeter to help to deter unauthorized access and support security-related operations.
• Communicate with site contacts, employees, and the public regarding access requirements, directions, and/or security-related concerns while maintaining detailed and accurate activity reports.

Minimum Requirements

• A TSA issued TWIC is required.
• A guard card and/or license is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
