Responsibilities
The Department of Internal Medicine at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama is seeking a full-time board-eligible/certified Infectious Disease (ID) academic Physician at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to join our practice. This provider will support initiatives to expand the educational and academic mission of the division and services to patients and collaboratively support the programs and activities conducted by the USA ID division for the University of South Alabama Whiddon College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine including an ACGME approved fellowship program in Infectious Diseases.
The Division of Infectious Disease focuses on adult care and is involved in population and public health, supporting several local Federally Qualified Health Centers. Our current practice is comprised of six ID physicians and two advanced practice providers. In addition, our ID division operates a Ryan White HIV program. This program has growth opportunities for individuals who seek to further build on the clinical, public health, training and research successes of the division. The ID division provides infection control services and consultative care for inpatients at USA Health University Hospital, USA Health Children's and Women’s Hospital with the potential to expand services locally. The division is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and training of students, residents and other healthcare providers. The division aspires to begin an Infectious Disease fellowship as part of the strategic goals to further expand access to ID care on the Gulf Coast.
We seek applicants with an understanding of the medical, educational, clinical, and administrative issues for Internal Medicine residents and 1st-4th year medical students. Providers will assist with inpatient ID care management (both independently and with residents) and outpatient clinical activity.
