Overview

Be Smoke Free is a specialist tobacco addiction service run by Change Grow Live in partnership with Manchester Health Care Commissioning Service and Manchester City Council. Our aim is to raise awareness of the negative effects of smoking and to promote wellbeing in workplaces and other organisations across the city.

Working within the smoking service, as a Specialist Stop Smoking Adviser you will be a vital part of the team. You will provide a high-quality stop smoking service across the region. This will be delivered through a range of interventions, from harm reduction and brief advice and information; to treatment alongside structured programmes; the aim being to support people to quit tobacco and vaping and live a healthier life. The interventions will be delivered face to face in the community, within organisations, and/or remotely, on an individual or group basis.

Location: Manchester

Hours: Part time 22.5 hours per week

Contract Type : Fixed Term Contract from 1st September 2026 until 31st March 2027

Please note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities

About the Role

  • To promote the benefits of stopping smoking and vaping, and of the stop smoking services through a variety of mechanisms and at a range of agreed venues, places and events.
  • To work as part of a specialist team providing brief advice and structured programmes to a wide population of individuals across the region.
  • Work as part of the NRT, Varenicline, and E-cigarette protocol
  • Support key work-streams to ensure that services are appropriately tailored and targeted to specific target groups.
  • Engage with professionals, employees and the wider community to increase understanding of the impacts of smoking on health and wellbeing, and encourage appropriate referrals.
  • Ensure all interventions are recorded accurately through record management systems.
  • Keeping up to date with policy developments in relation to smoking cessation.
  • Provide support and mentoring to apprentices, volunteers and students on placement to ensure learning opportunities across the service are managed.
  • Support the Nurse Manager to ensure service targets are achieved.
  • To undertake any other duties as instructed by the line manager/s that will contribute to fulfilling the project aims.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to wider professionals seeking further information about Stop Smoking Services

About You

  • Experience of working within a Health and/or social care environment
  • Understanding and knowledgeable of the harmful effects associated with smoking.
  • An understanding and awareness of current national policies on smoking and the strategies that influence the priorities of stop smoking services.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the treatments and interventions available to smokers and people who vape.
  • Experience of carrying out assessments and delivering interventions matched to identified needs.
  • A clear understanding of the need for, and ability to deliver, quality services.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk.
  • An ability to maintain accurate records of work undertaken.
  • The willingness to undertake training and development as required.
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages and electronic recording systems.
