Imperial College London Diabetes & Endocrine Centre (ICLDEC) is a global leader in diabetes and endocrine treatment, education, and research. Established in 2006 by Mubadala in partnership with the UK’s Imperial College London, the Centre specializes in treating all types of diabetes and endocrine disorders, while advancing research, professional training, and public health awareness initiatives. Operating across multiple locations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, ICLDEC is internationally recognized for delivering a comprehensive, patient-centered model of care. We are seeking an accomplished Medical Director to lead the diabetes and endocrinology outpatient service lines across ICLDEC. This senior clinical leadership role is responsible for driving clinical excellence, operational performance, governance, and strategic growth across one of the region’s most established diabetes and endocrine service platforms. The Medical Director will work in close partnership with executive leadership, senior clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of world-class, patient-centered care and to position ICLDEC as a regional leader in endocrine health.
Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of consultants and clinical professionals across diabetes and endocrinology.
- Define and implement clinical strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Foster a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
Clinical Governance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and clinical governance standards (DOH and international benchmarks).
- Drive continuous improvement in clinical outcomes, patient safety, and quality KPIs.
- Standardize care pathways through evidence-based practices to reduce clinical variation.
Operational Excellence
- Optimize clinic utilization, patient flow, and capacity management across outpatient settings.
- Improve patient access, experience, and reduce wait times.
- Lead performance reviews and contribute to operational planning and efficiency initiatives.
Strategy & Service Growth
- Define and execute the strategic vision for diabetes and endocrinology services.
- Identify opportunities for service expansion, innovation, and clinical program development.
- Strengthen ICLDEC’s position as a regional center of excellence in endocrine care.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership.
- Represent the service line in engagements with regulators, partners, and academic institutions.
- Build strong internal and external relationships to support strategic objectives.
Qualifications
- Medical degree with a recognized specialty qualification in Endocrinology or Internal Medicine (DOH-recognized as Tier 1; e.g., CCT, American Board, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 10+ years of post-qualification clinical experience in Endocrinology or Internal Medicine.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in roles such as Lead Consultant, Head of Department, or Program Director.
- Proven experience in service line leadership, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Strong ability to lead and influence senior clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively within a complex, regulated healthcare environment.
- Position to be based in Abu Dhabi.
