Job description

The Company

Solestial, Inc. is the solar energy company for space.  Solestial’s core technology is a breakthrough ultra-thin silicon solar cell that can self-cure radiation damage at normal operating temperatures in space, packaged in a flexible, lightweight panel designed to achieve minimum degradation for up to 10 years in LEO.  Solestial panels can be mass-produced using automated machines resulting in costs 90% lower than incumbent technologies, with virtually unlimited manufacturing capacity.  From today’s satellite constellations and research projects to tomorrow’s utility-scale energy infrastructure and services in space, Solestial is powering the new space economy.

The Role

As a Process Technician at Solestial you will be responsible for processing ultra-thin solar cells according to baseline processes. This will include safely operating R&D equipment to run baseline solar cell production lots according to documented procedures, troubleshooting tool failures, and assisting process engineers with transferring R&D processes to large-scale manufacturing tools. For our large-scale manufacturing line, technicians will be performing operational preventative maintenance on the equipment, diagnosing and troubleshooting intermediate-level alarms, running basic quality control procedures, and working with simple hand tools and systems during floor operations.

This is an exciting position as part of a positive, supportive, and passionate team! A competitive compensation package, including equity and full benefits (see below), will be offered.

Specific Responsibilities to Include

  • Safely operate manufacturing tools and equipment to support production goals and product quality.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with training, documented procedures, and supervisor guidance.
  • Monitor equipment operation, process parameters, and system alarms.
  • Collect and document process data; make decisions based on established procedures to maintain process control.
  • Identify abnormal conditions, escalate issues appropriately, and communicate recommendations effectively.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Communicate production status, issues, and priorities during shift handoffs.
  • Perform basic mechanical maintenance using hand tools and measurement equipment on manufacturing systems.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and cleanroom standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

Your Background

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or higher in a STEM-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working in an R&D or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Hands-on experience assembling small, delicate components with strong manual dexterity.
  • Ability to spend extended periods sitting and/or standing while performing detailed assembly work.
  • Ability to work in a Class 1,000 cleanroom environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Basic troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
  • Previous experience in a cleanroom manufacturing environment (production or R&D) is preferred.
  • Experience in solar, semiconductor, electronics, aerospace, or related manufacturing industries is highly desirable
