Job description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Lecturer in Biomaterials or Bio-Polymers to join our team.

This is a unique opportunity to build a meaningful academic career in a supportive and high-performing environment. You’ll have the freedom to develop your own research programme in areas such as biomaterials, sustainable polymers, or biopolymer processing, while contributing to research that has genuine real-world impact.

Alongside your research, you’ll play an important role in shaping the next generation of engineers. Through engaging, high-quality teaching, you’ll help students develop both strong technical foundations and the professional skills they need to succeed—communication, collaboration, innovation, and systems thinking.

You’ll be part of a collegial and collaborative department that values fresh ideas, supports career development, and encourages meaningful connections with industry and the wider community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering engaging undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chemical and Materials Engineering
  • Contributing to the Faculty’s innovative professional engineering skills (ENGGEN) programme
  • Developing and growing an independent research programme in Biomaterials or Bio-Polymers
  • Publishing high-quality research and pursuing external funding opportunities
  • Supervising postgraduate students and final-year research and design projects
  • Building strong relationships with industry, government, and research partners
  • Contributing to a positive and inclusive departmental culture, outreach, and University initiatives

This is a permanent role, working 40 hours per week. The salary range for this role is $99,788 to $119,204 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.
