Bar Manager
Job description
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, motivate, coach, and develop the bar team to deliver exceptional guest experiences
- Recruit, onboard, train, and mentor team members in accordance with hotel standards
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback
- Prepare staff rosters to meet operational demands while controlling labour costs
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture
Guest Experience
- Ensure warm, professional, and engaging service is consistently delivered
- Build strong guest relationships and create memorable experiences
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest feedback and service recovery opportunities
- Drive guest engagement through innovative beverage offerings and promotions
- Maintain a visible presence during service periods to support the team
Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the bar and ensure smooth service delivery
- Ensure all opening, operating, and closing procedures are completed to standard
- Monitor service quality, presentation, cleanliness, and ambience
- Develop and maintain beverage menus, signature cocktails, and seasonal offerings
- Coordinate with kitchen and service teams to ensure seamless operations
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and operating safely
Financial Performance
- Manage beverage cost, inventory, and stock control processes
- Conduct regular stocktakes and investigate discrepancies
- Monitor sales performance and identify revenue opportunities
- Analyse business performance and implement initiatives to improve profitability
- Ensure accurate billing, cash handling, and financial reporting
Product Knowledge
- Maintain expert knowledge of cocktails, wines, beers, spirits, and beverage trends
- Introduce innovative beverage concepts aligned with the Radisson RED brand
- Train team members on product knowledge, upselling techniques, and service standards
- Work with suppliers to source quality products and support promotional activities
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all licensing laws relating to the responsible service of alcohol
- Maintain the highest standards of hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety
- Ensure compliance with hotel policies, brand standards, and operating procedures
- Manage food safety and health & safety requirements within the bar operation
- Ensure all team members maintain professional grooming and presentation standards
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Food & Beverage leadership to achieve departmental objectives
- Collaborate with Events, Kitchen, Front Office, and Sales teams to deliver successful functions and promotions
- Participate in management meetings, briefings, and training initiatives
- Support continuous improvement projects across the Food & Beverage department
Education & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in bar operations within a premium hotel, restaurant, or hospitality environment
- Minimum 2 years' leadership or supervisory experience managing bar teams
- Experience with beverage menu development, inventory management, and financial reporting

- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Commercial acumen with strong financial and analytical skills
- Exceptional guest service orientation
- Advanced knowledge of wines, spirits, cocktails, and mixology
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with POS systems and inventory management software
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Other Requirements & Certifications
- Current Responsible Service of Alcohol certification (or New Zealand equivalent)
- LCQ and DM Certification from New Zealand
- First Aid certification is an advantage
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, evenings, and public holidays
- Multilingual skills are a plus
