Program Description: Within the Department of Environmental Protection, the State Parks, Forest Service, Forest Fire Service, Natural Lands Management and State Park Police work together to provide equitable and responsible access to the state’s natural, historic and recreational resources. Through the implementation of best practices in stewardship, education, interpretation, law enforcement and forest protection, we ensure the conservation, protection and understanding of these resources.

Project Description: Under the supervision of the Regulatory Officer, the Legal Intern will draft legal agreements using templates (Memoranda of Agreement and Memoranda of Record) for NJDEP's State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites Program. The Legal Intern may also assist in drafting program responses related to tort litigation for review by the Regulatory Officer.

Specific to the Position: Strong writing and organizational skills.

Preferred Area of Study: This internship is geared towards law students but we will also consider applicants who have obtained, or are working towards, an undergraduate degree and intend to pursue a career in environmental law and/or policy. Geographic Information skills a plus but not required.

License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
