Overview

The Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician must provide direct health care services to the population served by TUMG. In addition, the teaching of residents, medical students and other learners is considered an essential part of the job requirements for this Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician. The Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician may also be asked to participate on various committees such as those related to Graduate Medical Education (GME), St. Joseph’s Medical Center, and other committees.

The Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that will assess, diagnose and treat individuals with acute psychiatric illness. The Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician will be responsible for final diagnoses as well as being intimately involved in the development and execution of the multi-disciplinary treatment plan, including but not limited to, medication management treatment. The psychiatrist will evaluate the effectiveness of medication management plans and adjust as necessary. The psychiatrist will also be responsible for contributing to ongoing training and education of staff and trainees in regard to psychiatric illnesses and treatment. The Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician will be specifically responsible for the initial assessment of a patient, as well as on going assessment of the effectiveness of treatment and be involved in discharge planning. The Outpatient Psychiatrist Physician will be expected to participate in daily team meetings, as well as clinical rounds on patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric patient care services at St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) in Stockton, CA as required.
  • Provide psychiatric services under the auspices of the Touro University Medical Group at the St. Joseph’s Behavioral Health outpatient hospital.
  • May serve in the role of educator and preceptor to SJMC Residents and to medical students, student Physician Assistants and Nursing Students.
  • May be requested to oversee and mentor Advanced Practice Providers (“APP”) such as Nurse Practitioner or certified Physician Assistant.
  • Participate in formative and summative evaluations of learners.
  • May be requested to participate in SJMC GME Committees. Examples include the Clinical Competency Committee or the Program Evaluation Committee.
  • From time to time, may be requested to assist in didactic and clinical education programs as they relate to the specialty of Psychiatry, primarily in Stockton and rarely at Touro University California, Vallejo, CA.
  • Comply with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the institutional requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution.
  • Be familiar with and comply with hospital bylaws, TUMG bylaws, and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (“ACGME”) policies and procedures as they pertain to the practice of medicine and the education of learners.
  • Must participate in academic societies and in educational programs designed to enhance their skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Able to meet the requirements for an academic appointment and position with TUMG in accordance with Touro University, California Faculty Handbook.
  • Requisite specialty expertise and experience in accordance with the faculty requirements expressed in Section II.B. in the ACGME Program Requirements for Psychiatry.

  • Pursue faculty development designed to enhance their skills at least annually and in accordance with the SJMC (St. Joseph’s Medical Center) Psychiatry Residency Program requirements.
  • Current Board Certification in Psychiatry by the American Osteopathic Association or American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or be Board Eligible
  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Current California Medical Licensure
  • Current DEA Licensure with CA address
  • Meet all criteria and obtain appropriate medical staff appointment
