Position Summary

The Health & Fitness Program Coordinator is responsible for the integration, planning, development, and implementation of Kendal at Lexington's resident fitness and wellness programs. This position promotes a diverse range of opportunities that support meaningful pursuits, recreation, exercise, friendships, social interaction, personal growth, and enjoyment for residents across the community.

Working collaboratively with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners, the Fitness Coordinator develops innovative wellness initiatives that support Kendal's mission, philosophy, and commitment to person-centered care.

What You Will Do

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee comprehensive fitness and wellness programs that support residents' physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational well-being.
  • Plan and lead a variety of group fitness classes, wellness activities, and educational programs designed to meet the diverse needs and abilities of older adults.
  • Conduct semi-annual fitness assessments to establish baseline measurements and monitor resident progress through quarterly documentation.
  • Encourage resident participation by creating engaging, inclusive, and meaningful wellness opportunities.
  • Promote and advertise scheduled wellness programs and special events throughout the community.
  • Maintain resource materials and identify new opportunities to expand wellness programming.
  • Collaborate with residents, families, interdisciplinary teams, volunteers, and community organizations to develop innovative health and wellness initiatives.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations, academic institutions, congregations, and community wellness resources.
  • Participate in resident care discussions and communicate resident wellness concerns as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and evaluate program participation to ensure resident goals and departmental objectives are being achieved.
  • Continuously evaluate, improve, and redesign wellness programs based on resident feedback, participation, and outcomes.
  • Support Kendal's mission by fostering an active, engaging, and inclusive environment that promotes lifelong wellness.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Human Services, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, Wellness, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience, preferably working with older adults.
  • CPR certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire) with annual renewal.
  • Specialty certification or licensure in fitness, wellness, personal training, group exercise, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage older adults in wellness programming.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and creativity when developing programs to meet diverse resident needs.
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community organizations preferred.
  • Commitment to person-centered care, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lead fitness classes and actively participate in wellness programming.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stretching, and light lifting.
  • Ability to move throughout the community and assist residents during activities as needed.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations and maintain CPR certification.
