About the position

We invite applications for a full time permanent position as Associate Professor in Pharmacoepidemiology and Health Data Analytics at the Section for Pharmaceutics and Social Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy, University of Oslo.

About the Department and what they are looking for in this position

The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Oslo is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative researcher with strong scientific, educational and collaborative skills in pharmacoepidemiology, health data analytics and real-world evidence generation.

The Department has a strong interdisciplinary environment covering key areas of pharmaceutical sciences. Through cutting-edge research, extensive national and international collaborations, and an integrated five-year Master’s programme in Pharmacy, the Department is a leading contributor to pharmaceutical research and education in Norway. We maintain close collaborations with healthcare services, regulatory authorities, public health institutions, and the pharmaceutical and health technology sectors. The successful candidate must be able to teach social pharmacy within the professional pharmacy programme at the Department.

The position will be affiliated with the Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety ( PharmaSafe ) research group in the Section for Pharmaceutics and Social Pharmacy. The research group has extensive experience in pharmacoepidemiology and real-world evidence generation using nationwide Norwegian health registries and population-based cohorts to study use, effectiveness and safety of medications and vaccines. Combined with access to advanced e-infrastructure, secure analysis platforms and strong national and international collaborations, the research environment offers unique opportunities for high-impact research using linked healthcare data.

The successful candidate is expected to strengthen the Department’s research in pharmacoepidemiology, health data analytics and AI-enabled real-world evidence generation with a particular emphasis on the innovative use of large-scale healthcare datasets.

The Department will relocate to the new Life Science Building (Livsvitenskapsbygningen- UiO:Livsvitenskap) in 2026. This move will provide unique opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers in epidemiology, biostatistics, informatics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and precision medicine. The Department leads the UiO:Real-World Evidence (UiO:RWE) convergence environment, a strategic interdisciplinary initiative in the Life Science building that promotes innovative use of health data and real-world evidence across the University. The successful candidate will become part of this interdisciplinary environment and contribute to its research, educational and collaborative activities.

Teaching and supervision are important part of the position, and the overall workload is typically balanced between research, teaching and academic leadership. The Department is a partner in the national research school in epidemiology, EPINOR, through which PhD candidates gain access to specialized courses, networking opportunities, and a broad national research community. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to EPINOR's research and training activities and help strengthen the Department's role within the network.

Your main tasks will be

  • Conduct and lead internationally competitive research within pharmacoepidemiology, health data analytics, and the use of machine learning for real-world evidence generation.
  • Develop and apply innovative methods for analysing large-scale healthcare data, including advanced epidemiological, statistical, computational approaches.
  • Initiate, lead and contribute to externally funded national and international research projects.
  • Teach and supervise students at bachelor, master, PhD and postdoctoral level at the Department of Pharmacy.
  • Contribute to the development of courses and educational activities within pharmacoepidemiology and health data science.
  • Contribute to the Department's strategic initiatives within health data analysis and digital life science, including the UiO:Real-World Evidence ( UiO:RWE ) convergence environment and the Norwegian Research School in Epidemiology ( EPINOR ).
  • Strengthening collaboration with healthcare services, regulatory authorities, public health institutions, industry and national and international research networks.
  • Participate in academic leadership, including course development, examination duties, and other administrative responsibilities as required.
