Job Purpose:
The IPS System Specialist is part of the Instrument Discipline Team responsible for providing quality assurance to SIF tests, and for carrying out of preventive / corrective maintenance activities and configuration changes for the Pearl GTL Complex for IPS and FGS system.
To perform and oversee activities across the Safety Instrumented System (SIS) safety lifecycle in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511
The incumbent is accountable for the maintenance and modification of IPS and FGS Systems based on approved Maintenance Strategies, Approved Plant Changes, Procedures and Working Instructions to ensure the highest Availability and Integrity of the installed Instrumented Protective Systems thus meeting the requirements of the company.

Contribute to maintaining equipment integrity and reliability. Support Projects and Plant changes QA/QC commissioning. Demonstrate additional skill and responsibility to support Supervisor and lead others. Coaching and mentoring role to the QSGTL Instrument maintenance technicians, engineering staff, operations, and Qatari nationals.
Organization:
The IPS System specialist will be part of the Asset Team reporting through the Instrument IPS System Engineer to the Instrument Engineering Manager.
Principal Accountabilities:
Assist in the normal operational activities through equipment inspection and maintenance activities based QA/QC procedures and Reliability-Centered Maintenance techniques.
Contribute to the reliability and integrity of the plant instrumentation equipment by application of approved standards, procedures and schedules and effect control within an ISO certified quality assurance system.
To be a front-line maintenance person relevant to IPS System problems and breakdown maintenance.
To perform quality surveillance of Instrumented Protective field equipment scheduled testing that will be carried-out by the Maintenance department.
Establish materials and equipment required to complete correctly all allocated tasks.
Ensure IPS System availability / integrity through monitoring and maintaining IPS System performance and strict adherence to the plant change procedure.
To be an IPS System knowledge base giving supports and advice to concerned parties.
Provide technical support to concerned parties on the details of Instrumented Protective Functions in his assigned area.
To maintain system integrity by setting and controlling security parameters and privileges, setting priorities, installing and reinstalling applications, arranging back-up and recovery activities etc.
Access tasks and ensure accurate history of maintenance & inspection activities within the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
To support or participate in functional safety assessments, audits, and compliance checks.
Carry out condition monitoring of installed IPS and FGS Systems and record results through the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
To implement/modify functional logics on IPS and FGS Systems resulting from approved plant changes/projects as directed by the IPS System Engineer.
To assist in SIS performance monitoring and analysis including bad actor such as spurious trip, SIF overrides trip demand and etc.
To assist and supervise support from other resources (vendors, SGS and internal specialists) in order to perform problem solving, optimization, system development and maximize use of the system.
To become approved as a Competent Electrical Person for Low Voltage Equipment and IPS System Isolation.
Ensure compliance with the Company's HSE policy and guidelines.
Assist in controlling IPS System documentation / data.
Assist in training and assessing operator technicians in activities that support the Basic Equipment Care program.
Support the area maintenance teams for problems that require specialist competencies not present in the area teams.
Participate in the Duty Roster.
Act independently.
Possess SKILL competencies for Honeywell Safety Manager.
Possess SKILL competency for field instrumentation.
Possess SKILL competency for Fire and Gas Detectors.
Promote Incident and Injury Free Culture in QSGTL.
Present Lessons Learned to other Instrument personnel.
Present SIF testing protocols understanding to Company and Contract Instrument personnel.
Possess SKILL competency in SPI.
Possess SKILL competency in the use of Shera and ensure that safety incidents are reported using this tool.
Participate in Team building activities.
Contribute to field audits and Inspections.
Contribute to ensure no overdue PM jobs.
Possess SKILL competency of Plant change system and demonstrate adherence.
Possess SKILL competency and application of PTW system and attachments.
Possess SKILL competency for effective presentations and deliver.
Possess commissioning SKILL competency for Plant change and small Project work.
Raise suggestions for Improved Reliability ideas to Instrument SIS daily meeting
Author Procedures/ Work Instructions / Scopes of work as required.
Possess KNOWLEDGE competency in FDM and HART interfaces.
Possess KNOWLEDGE competency for DCS and Subsystems.
Possess SKILL competency for the SAP.
Possess KNOWLEDGE competency for the SIF methodology.
Participate in SIF classification reviews as resource person in the design of the protective functions.
Participate in SIF incident investigations by providing the information required from the systems.
Participate in IPS, FGS and SIF components root cause failure analyses.
Serve as mentor to junior IPS technicians, instrument maintenance technicians, Maintenance contract partner SIF testing technicians, Honeywell systems engineers, and Qatari nationals as required.
Prepare IPS and FGS shutdown related scopes of work for Turnaround.
Prepare and execute QA/QC packages for Turnaround.
Act as Team Lead for the execution of IPS and FGS Turnaround work.
Prepare and lead team for Instrumentation related audits.
Possess SKILL competency to be a SAP Focal point to support other Instrument personnel.
Prepare and deliver specific training packages to Instrument personnel
Key Challenges:
To assist in the Instrument Section by developing and carrying out Flawless Maintenance and Turnaround practices for the Installed IPS Systems that will achieve and sustain Pearl GTL’s ambitious availability targets.
Continuous improvement of complex availability and reliability and reduction of mean time to repair.
No production loss, plant trip or quality non-conformance as a result of tasks performed.
Full utilization of the computerized maintenance management system.
Maintain a reasonable backlog by completing all allocated tasks within the allocated time.
No overdue preventive maintenance jobs.

To assist in development of QSGTL Instrument technicians, engineering staff, operations, Maintenance contract partner Instrument technicians and Qatari nationals as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
The candidate should have at least bachelor Engineering or equivalent diploma degree in electronics/ Instrumentation with more than 10 years' experience in either onshore or offshore facilities of the Oil& Gas or Petrochemical Industry. Knowledge and minimum 5 years hands on experience in the configuration, logic modification and maintenance of Honeywell make IPS /FGS Systems Safety Manager and Instrumented Protective Field Instrumentation is essential.
Knowledge of Field Instrument Installation, Maintenance Execution and Instrumented Protective devices Inspection/Testing is also essential. Experience in troubleshooting and analysis of system alarms and equipment failures is required.
The incumbent shall have knowledge in scientific principles, different measuring principles, engineering fundamentals and computer technology and have the ability to mentor junior colleagues.
The incumbent shall have the ability to work in a team in a multicultural environment and must be able to communicate effectively. Fluency in both written and verbal English is mandatory and tests will be given.
