Head of Mechanical & Electrical

Role Overview

The Head of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) will be responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing all M&E engineering activities across the firm's diverse portfolio of projects. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record in delivering complex M&E solutions from conceptual design through to successful project execution and commissioning. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, foster innovation, and mentor a high-performing team to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Technical Direction:
  • Develop and implement M&E strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the firm's overall business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Provide expert technical leadership and guidance to the M&E department, ensuring all designs and installations meet required standards and performance criteria.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, regulations, and sustainable practices in M&E, integrating relevant advancements into project delivery.
  • Project Oversight & Delivery:
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of M&E systems for projects, including design, specification, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Ensure all M&E projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while adhering to contractual obligations.
  • Manage and mitigate technical and operational risks associated with M&E systems across all projects.
  • Team Management & Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of M&E engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and implement professional development plans for team members.
  • Optimize resource allocation and workload management within the M&E department.
  • Quality, Compliance & Safety:
  • Establish and enforce robust quality control procedures for all M&E works and deliverables.
  • Ensure strict compliance with relevant international and local codes, standards, regulations, and health & safety requirements.
  • Act as the ultimate technical authority for M&E-related issues, providing resolutions and expert advice.
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments (e.g., project management, architecture, civil engineering) to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Liaise and negotiate with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities on M&E matters.
  • Represent the firm in technical discussions, presentations, and industry forums.

Requirements

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Master's degree or a recognized professional engineering license (e.g., P.Eng, CEng) is highly preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in M&E engineering, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership or management role overseeing large-scale, complex projects across various sectors (e.g., commercial, residential, industrial, infrastructure).
  • Proven track record of successfully leading M&E teams and delivering projects from concept to completion.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • In-depth knowledge of various M&E systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical power distribution, lighting, ELV systems, and building management systems (BMS).
  • Strong understanding of relevant international and local building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, local authority requirements).
  • Proficiency in M&E design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools) and engineering calculation software.
  • Leadership & Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
