Annual Salary: $100k - $125k
Pengelly Trucks and Trailers, operating in Toowoomba and Roma Qld, is a leading new and used truck and trailer sales, service and maintenance dealership. We are currently seeking a talented and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our expanding workshop team in Roma. The role is for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to work in our modern, fully equipped workshop.
You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and performing repairs on company and client trucks and trailers in accordance with the company's compliance requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform regular servicing and maintenance on heavy commercial vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and other fleet vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in vehicles using diagnostic equipment and manual inspection techniques.
- Conduct repairs to engines, transmission systems, braking systems, suspension, and other essential vehicle components.
- Ensure that all maintenance tasks are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
- Replace worn or damaged parts, including engines, gearboxes, and other key components.
- Conduct road tests on vehicles after repairs to ensure functionality and performance.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed on each vehicle.
- Comply with all relevant safety procedures and industry regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with the Workshop Supervisor and other team members to prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks.
- Assist in the troubleshooting and rectification of emergency breakdowns when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in vehicle technology and repair techniques.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering Technician or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Heavy vehicle mechanic qualifications – minimum CERT III.
- Current motor vehicle and HR Licence (minimum); and
- Experience with Cummins and Detroit engines and diff and gearbox componentry essential
- Current forklift licence (preferrable).
- Proven experience in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of heavy commercial vehicles (trucks, trailers, and other fleet vehicles).
- Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work with advanced diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and regulations relevant to vehicle maintenance.
