Role Overview

The Medical Records Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and usability of underwriting data used in analytics, summaries, and decision-support tools. This role blends record quality control, clinical comprehension, and refinement of AI-assisted or system-generated outputs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and comfortable reviewing dense documentation across multiple document types and specialties while maintaining high accuracy and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

Review and validate medical records for completeness, legibility, accuracy, and consistency. Review, refine, and validate AI-assisted or system-generated outputs to ensure alignment with source records. Interpret records across multiple provider types and specialties, including hospitals, clinics, specialists, financial records, Government Documents, and insurance applications Accurately identify and understand diagnoses, medications, procedures, laboratory results, vitals, and timelines. Identify gaps, discrepancies, duplications, or conflicting information and escalate appropriately. Ensure required data is present and remove unnecessary data per guidelines. Meet established quality, accuracy, and productivity targets. Maintain focus and accuracy during sustained periods of detailed medical record review. Adapt to evolving tools, workflows, and AI-driven processes.

Requirements

At least 1 year of relevant experience in medical data entry and review, clinical documentation, or medical records management. Strong understanding of clinical concepts including diagnoses, medications, procedures, labs, vitals, and timelines. Typing speed of at least 50 WPM with 95% accuracy. Strong experience in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms. Excellent reading speed, comprehension, and analytical skills. Ability to efficiently process large, complex, and unstructured records. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data handling. Ability to recognize subtle inconsistencies or missing information. Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Strong time-management, prioritization, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Nice to Have

Working knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system. Knowledge of HIPAA is a major advantage. Familiarity with common medical terminology and abbreviations.
