An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Data Management Infrastructure Support Engineer within UOP's Research facility located in Des Plaines, IL. This position will be part of a network and data management group supporting real time data acquisition systems used by research and pilot plant operations within UOP's 500+ member R&D organization.

Position Responsibilities

Data System Support: -Provide routine system support for those servers and server-based software systems utilized as part of data-driven software solutions that have been implemented. -Provide support for specialized data acquisition and data processing systems utilized as part of data-driven software solutions that have been implemented. -Upgrade and migrate data systems as needed to support new operating systems, newer releases of system software, and/or newer server and storage hardware. -Participate in a team of data management support professionals to provide 24 x 7 support of data systems to ensure that data collection, transfer, processing, storage, and delivery continuity is maintained for R&D personnel.

Network and Hardware Infrastructure Support: -Provide support for CheckPoint firewalls, Cisco networking and Dell/EMC server/storage equipment that is the supporting infrastructure for data collection, transfer, and storage of business-critical R&D experimental data on a 24 x 7 basis. -Apply NIST security best-practices for firewall, network, and server hardening as it applies to the access-control of a process control environment, as well as research data intellectual property protection.

Documentation: -Develop technical documentation, training materials, and best-practice guides for administrative tasks, network configurations, and other relevant subject matter.

You Must Have -Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related IT or engineering discipline is required. -Minimum 2 + years work experience in network and/or systems support, or commensurate level of experience doing similar work in an academic environment.

We Value -Demonstrated experience working with Cisco network equipment, Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, and general computer hardware support. -Experience with server virtualization using VMware. -Experience providing administrative support for systems running Linux. -College-level coursework in the physical sciences such as chemistry, with associated laboratory coursework, or commensurate level of equivalent work experience. -Experience in providing support in a laboratory, research, process, or manufacturing environment, or similar experience in an academic environment. -The ability to communicate effectively with R&D customers (typically chemists and chemical engineers) and understand their terminology and specifics of their data and issues so that troubleshooting and resolving a problem can be more effective and timely. -A working understanding of network design, data flows, and operational considerations as it relates to system and infrastructure support in a secured process control, on-line analytical, and data management network. -Familiarity with administration of systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, and IIS. -Familiarity with process control systems such as Honeywell Experion would be useful for this position. -Commitment to corporate and departmental health, safety and environmental (HSE) initiatives-especially as it relates to operating a network, process control systems, and data management services in an environment that can have significant HSE implications when faults occur is ideal. -Ability to function effectively in a team based work environment. -Excellent organizational skills and technical expertise. -Self directed and capable of operating with a minimum of supervision. -Effective oral and written communication skills.
