Project Manager (Civil Structural)
Job description
Project Manager (Civil Structural)
Our client is an established electromechanical construction company with over two decades of experience, specializing in the delivery of critical data center infrastructure and comprehensive M&E engineering services across Malaysia.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Project Manager (Civil Structural) to lead and oversee all civil and structural aspects of our complex data center construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the robust and compliant delivery of foundational and structural elements that underpin critical M&E systems, managing projects from inception through to successful completion while adhering to stringent quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end civil and structural project lifecycle for data center construction, encompassing planning, design coordination, execution, and handover.
- Oversee the detailed planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for all civil and structural works, including deep foundations, substructure, superstructure (reinforced concrete and structural steel), and building envelope.
- Ensure structural designs are robust, compliant with relevant local (e.g., UBBL) and international codes (e.g., ACI, BS EN), and effectively integrate with complex M&E systems, accommodating heavy equipment loads, vibration isolation, and specific spatial requirements of data centers.
- Lead and supervise on-site civil and structural construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to project specifications, quality standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections, quality checks, and material approvals, coordinating closely with structural consultants, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain project integrity and performance.
- Monitor project progress against schedule and budget, identify potential delays or cost overruns, and implement proactive corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Manage all project documentation related to civil structural works, including progress reports, variation orders, technical submissions, method statements, and as-built drawings.
- Liaise effectively with clients, consultants, local authorities, and internal M&E teams to ensure seamless project execution and resolve any interdisciplinary conflicts or technical challenges.
- Implement and enforce stringent safety management systems specific to civil structural construction, fostering a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Participate in value engineering initiatives to optimize structural designs and construction methodologies without compromising quality, performance, or data center specific requirements.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
- Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in project management of civil and structural works, with a significant portion dedicated to large-scale industrial, commercial, or critical infrastructure projects (e.g., data centers, power plants, heavy industrial facilities).
- Professional Registration: Registered Professional Engineer (Ir. / P.Eng.) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of Malaysian building codes (e.g., UBBL) and international structural design standards (e.g., ACI, BS EN, Eurocodes).
- Proven expertise in various civil structural methodologies, including deep foundations, reinforced concrete structures, structural steel fabrication and erection, and advanced building envelopes.
- Familiarity with the structural requirements for supporting heavy M&E equipment, raised flooring systems, and critical infrastructure within data centers.
- Project Management Skills:
- Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Strong capabilities in budget management, schedule control, risk assessment, and quality assurance.
- Software Proficiency: Competency in structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit for BIM coordination).
- Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders effectively.
- Certifications: PMP certification is an advantage. Safety & Health Officer (SHO) certification is a plus.
