Job description

Sigma Defense is seeking a Quality Control Lead to be responsible for developing, managing, and enforcing quality assurance and quality control practices within a high‑performance maintenance environment. This role ensures that all maintenance activities meet the required workmanship, safety, documentation, and compliance standards while driving continuous improvement across the maintenance workforce.

This is a contingent position that is pending award of contract. This means that the position is subject to the successful awarding of a contract and will be confirmed once the contract is finalized. The candidate selected for this role will be offered the position on the condition that the contract is awarded to our organization.

  • 5+ years of experience performing maintenance, repair, or modification of aircraft or U.S. Navy shipboard mechanical systems.
  • 5+ years of concurrent experience supervising maintenance and repair activities in these environments.
  • Strong technical background with direct exposure to inspection, verification, and maintenance quality standards.
  • Extensive experience developing, implementing, and managing quality control programs within a maintenance environment.
  • Must possess current Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) certifications.
  • Proven ability to identify quality issues, analyze root causes, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality teams and collaborate effectively with maintenance leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings, preparing reports, and coaching personnel.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to maintain objectivity during inspections.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Personnel Clearance Level

  • Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain an active Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Clearance may be sponsored for the right candidate.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Technical training in mechanical systems, quality assurance, inspection methods, or related maintenance disciplines preferred.

Essential Job Duties (not all-inclusive)

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive quality control programs supporting maintenance, repair, and modification activities.
  • Lead and mentor maintenance personnel in the proper application of quality standards, inspection criteria, and verification procedures.
  • Establish and monitor quality performance expectations across all maintenance functions.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and evaluations of maintenance processes, tools, documentation, and completed work packages.
  • Validate that repairs, component replacements, and system modifications meet defined quality standards and workmanship requirements.
  • Review maintenance logs, checklists, and technical documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Apply and enforce workmanship standards, including J‑STD‑001, IPC‑A‑610, and IPC‑A‑620.
  • Use current Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) certifications to perform inspections, identify defects, and verify the integrity of materials and components.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel understand and correctly apply these standards in daily technical work.
  • Identify quality issues, non‑conformances, and trends that impact maintenance performance.
  • Lead root‑cause analyses and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Introduce process improvements to enhance accuracy, safety, efficiency, and documentation quality.
  • Support the proper execution and verification of preventative maintenance activities.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are documented correctly and validated through quality checks.
  • Collaborate with maintenance supervisors to embed quality checkpoints into daily maintenance operations.
  • Provide training and mentorship to technicians and inspectors on quality requirements, inspection techniques, and workmanship standards.
  • Support qualification tracking and competency development for maintenance and quality personnel.
  • Promote a culture of precision, accountability, and quality awareness.
  • Ensure all maintenance and inspection actions conform to established safety procedures and operational policies.
  • Identify potential hazards related to workmanship, tooling, material condition, or procedural lapses and implement corrective measures.

Salary Range : $103,000 - $127,000 annually.
