About Westerwelle Startup Haus Accra
The Westerwelle Foundation for International Understanding, headquartered in Berlin, Germany, is a non-profit organization established in 2013 by Dr. Guido Westerwelle, former German Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ralph Dommermuth, CEO and Founder of United Internet AG.
The Foundation's work aims to accelerate digital transformation in emerging economies and create positive spill-over effects that strengthen transparency, integrity, and innovation within both private and public sector institutions. To support entrepreneurship ecosystems and foster innovation, the Westerwelle Foundation operates entrepreneurship hubs known as Westerwelle Startup Haus. These hubs are currently located in Tunis (Tunisia), Kigali (Rwanda), Arusha (Tanzania), Mombasa (Kenya), and Accra (Ghana), providing entrepreneurs with access to workspaces, networks, mentoring, and entrepreneurship support programmes tailored to different sectors and stages of business development.
The Westerwelle Startup Haus Accra (WSHAC), located in Accra and officially opening this year, serves as a collaborative entrepreneurship hub connecting founders, innovators, investors, corporates, universities, and ecosystem partners. Through flexible workspaces, entrepreneurship programmes, networking events, and strategic partnerships, WSHAC supports entrepreneurs in building scalable businesses while strengthening Ghana's innovation ecosystem and fostering collaboration across Africa.
Overview
As the Community & Marketing Manager, you will play a central role in building the Westerwelle Startup Haus Accra brand, growing our entrepreneurial community, and increasing the visibility and occupancy of our coworking space and programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, entrepreneurial, and highly organized individual who enjoys bringing people together, telling compelling stories, and creating meaningful partnerships. You will work closely with the Country Director and programme team to position WSHAC as one of Ghana's leading entrepreneurship hubs.
Responsibilities
Community Management
- Build a thriving community of members and partners at WSHAC. Nurture relationships with entrepreneurs, startups, investors, corporates, universities, development partners, and ecosystem stakeholders.
- Ensure high member satisfaction, retention, and engagement through community initiatives, events, and regular gathering of feedback from members.
- Welcome visitors and onboard new members while ensuring an outstanding community experience.
- Maintain strong relations with all members, support them with ad hoc requests and connect them with relevant people in the ecosystem.
- Initiate and implement space improvements, making sure WSHAC is a premium, comfortable work space for all members.
- Maintain the WSHAC community guidelines, online member communication channels, and CRM.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships that contribute to the growth of the hub.
Coworking Sales
- Manage the coworking sales pipeline end to end from lead generation to closing contracts.
- Develop marketing initiatives that increase coworking occupancy and member retention.
- Drive lead generation, giving tours to prospective clients, and selling coworking memberships.
- Develop partnerships and promotional initiatives that increase visibility and generate new revenue opportunities.
Marketing
Develop and implement the overall marketing and communications strategy for Westerwelle Startup Haus Accra.
- Create and execute digital marketing campaigns to increase brand awareness, event participation, programme applications, and coworking memberships.
- Plan, create, and publish engaging content for LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, newsletters, and other digital channels.
- Coordinate photography, videography, and graphic design for events and marketing campaigns.
- Promote entrepreneurship programmes through social media, email campaigns, traditional media, and partner channels.
- Monitor marketing performance and prepare regular reports on key performance indicators, including reach, engagement, lead generation, and conversions.
- Write articles, success stories, press releases, and programme communications highlighting the impact of WSHAC and its entrepreneurs.
- Ensure consistent branding across all communication channels and materials.
Event Management
Organize events for the WSHAC community and in collaboration with external clients and partners.
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of events before, during, and after implementation.
- Coordinate event communication, participant engagement, registrations, and follow-up activities.
- Capture stories, testimonials, photos, and videos during events for future communications.
- Manage relations to trusted service providers across event logistics and marketing.
- Manage the event space booking process end to end, from receiving requests from potential clients to preparing proposals and supporting with event execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship or a related field.
- At least two years of relevant professional experience in marketing, sales, community management, events, or business development.
- Experience working in startups, innovation hubs, NGOs, coworking spaces, entrepreneurship support organizations, or international development programmes is an advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of Twi or other Ghanaian languages is an asset.
