About the opportunity

SIRA is seeking expressions of interest for a short-term acting opportunity supporting the Chief Executive within the Office of the Chief Executive.

This opportunity would suit someone seeking exposure to the centre of executive decision-making, ministerial and parliamentary coordination, and whole-of-organisation governance. The role supports the flow of high-quality, timely information to and from the Chief Executive, including Budget Estimates, parliamentary requests, executive briefings, stakeholder issues and Executive Leadership Team business.

You will help ensure the Chief Executive receives the right information, at the right time and in the right form, while coordinating a small team responsible for ministerial, parliamentary and executive support functions.

What you will do

In this role, you will

  • Prepare and coordinate Chief Executive briefings, translating complex or incomplete information into clear, decision-ready advice
  • Coordinate House Folder Notes, parliamentary responses and Standing Order 52 requests, working across DCS and internal teams to meet tight deadlines
  • Track priority deliverables across the organisation to maintain visibility, momentum and accountability
  • Work directly with senior executives to test risks, messaging and positioning on sensitive or emerging issues
  • Triage sensitive requests from the Minister’s Office, DCS and central agencies, and determine the appropriate response pathway
  • Prepare and quality assure ELT papers, agendas and follow-up actions to support timely executive decision-making
  • Act as a connector across the organisation, joining up teams and inputs to support clear advice and coordinated outcomes.

The work is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly, requiring sound judgement, responsiveness and clear communication.

You will also coordinate the day-to-day work of the OCE team, including:

  • Setting clear daily and weekly priorities across competing requests and deadlines
  • Allocating work across the team and balancing workloads during peak periods
  • Reviewing and refining outputs so they are suitable for Chief Executive and ministerial audiences
  • Providing guidance on tone, structure and approach for complex briefings and correspondence
  • Supporting team members to navigate stakeholders and resolve issues efficiently
  • Maintaining visibility of incoming and outgoing work so deliverables are tracked and progressed.

About you

  • Experience in an executive, ministerial or governance environment, with exposure to all three preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor advice for senior audiences
  • The ability to synthesise complex information and provide practical, decision-ready advice
  • Composure and sound judgement in fast-moving or sensitive environments
  • The ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing views and keep work progressing
  • Strong organisation, responsiveness and confidence managing multiple priorities, deadlines and stakeholders.

Eligibility

  • This EOI is open to existing DCS employees only
  • Applicants may be experienced grade 11/12 employees or grade 9/10 employees ready for a short-term development opportunity
  • Relevant experience in executive services and governance is required, with ministerial and parliamentary support experience preferred.
