Job Description

The Campus School at Boston College is a private, publicly funded special education day school within the Lynch School of Education and Human Development on the Boston College campus. The Campus School educates students ages 3-22 with extensive support needs, including complex medical needs.

SUMMARY

Perform skilled physical therapy evaluations to assess functional levels and areas of need and provide therapeutic interventions which promote gross motor, fine motor and neuromuscular development for each student in order to improve their access to the education environment and achieve their highest potential.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluate and determine needs related to functional mobility Plan and implement therapy programs for Campus School students in individual, small group or classroom sessions Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, nursing team and support staff as part of a transdisciplinary team to ensure carry over of therapy goals to classroom activities on a weekly basis Contribute to three-year evaluations Update goals and objectives for each student on their Individualized Education Plan and provide quarterly progress reports on each goal/objective. Provide families with information related to their student’s physical therapy evaluation, goals, treatments, progress and equipment needs, as well as provide home visits to facilitate carryover of physical therapy programs into the home environment on an as needed basis. Provide in-service training to staff on appropriate techniques and or knowledge within the domain of physical therapy. Provide physical training as needed on safe lifting, handling and body mechanics. Participate in regularly scheduled adaptive equipment and orthotics clinics. Work as a collaborative member with team and caregivers to meet appropriate needs for new equipment and modifications to existing equipment based on student and family needs. Attend home visits as needed to assess the home environment for equipment safety, use and training.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $75,000 to $80,000; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Related Work Experience Preferred two years of experience working as physical therapist. Preferred experience with students with multiple disabilities and medical needs, prior experience in a school setting and experience with adaptive equipment.

Formal Education Bachelor’s Degree, Masters Degree, (Doctorate Preferred) Massachusetts License as Registered Physical Therapist

Preferred Certifications: •CPR •First Aid
