Job description

Wastewater (Hydraulic) Modeller

Shape urban drainage resilience

Purpose and scope of the role

Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking experienced Wastewater Hydraulic Modellers to join our Water Consultancy team delivering AMP8 and AMP9 programmes across the UK. You will construct, maintain and quality‑assure wastewater models, deliver feasibility assessments and develop outline and detailed design solutions for urban drainage, DWMPs, WINEP and catchment investment projects. Day‑to‑day you will work within multidisciplinary teams, manage small projects, engage directly with clients and handle large datasets that inform multi‑million‑pound delivery programmes.

Your impact in this position

You will immediately improve the robustness of modelling outputs used to prioritise investment and reduce pollution risk. Over the medium term you will lead technically complex modelling workstreams, influence design and intervention choices, and build trusted client relationships. Longer term there are clear routes to senior modelling, technical lead or programme roles where you will help set modelling standards and contribute to strategic planning across national frameworks.

Core capabilities

  • Urban drainage modelling proficiency - Expert in building and calibrating InfoWorks ICM models, interpreting results and applying best practice to network assessments.
  • Data handling & analysis - Confident managing large datasets, performing time‑series analysis and producing clear evidence to support decisions.
  • GIS & spatial intelligence - Proficient with MapInfo, ArcGIS or QGIS to integrate spatial data, support model inputs and create client deliverables. Technical delivery & quality assurance - Produce rigorous feasibility studies, design inputs and compliant modelling reports with strong attention to validation and traceability.
  • Collaboration & client engagement - Able to manage small projects, present findings to clients and work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Expected: degree in a relevant technical field; strong Excel competence. Desirable: postgraduate qualification and chartership or working towards chartership.

Work patterns & locations

Hybrid working with offices in London, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Warrington. Flexible arrangements supported.
