Job description
- Public Service Senior Executive Band 1 | Sydney
- Total Remuneration Package commensurate with experience within the Band 1 range
- Opportunity to lead a highly specialised regulatory function that helps shape professional standards and protect consumers across Australia.
This is a unique leadership opportunity for an experienced regulatory, legal or professional standards practitioner to lead a specialist team through an exciting period of strategic delivery and organisational development.
Working with professional/occupational associations, consumer groups and government stakeholders across Australia, you will provide expert leadership on complex regulatory matters and drive high-quality, evidence-based outcomes.
In this role, you will
- Lead the delivery of professional standards regulatory functions and support the statutory decision-making processes of the national Professional Standards Councils
- Drive professional standards improvements and consumer protection in the legal, audit/accounting and built environment sectors across Australia
- Provide strategic advice on complex regulatory and legislative matters
- Build and influence relati onships with senior stakeholders across government, industry and professional/occupational associations
- Identify and manage emerging risks, issues and opportunities
- Drive operational excellence, continuous improvement and strategic initiatives
- Lead, develop and support a team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance
About You
You are a thoughtful and resilient leader who can navigate complexity and exercise sound judgement in challenging environments.
You will bring
- Significant experience in regulation, legal practice, compliance, professional standards or a related field
- Strong statutory interpretation capability and experience applying complex legislation
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Proven people leadership experience, including developing capability and driving culture uplift
- A methodical, organised and solutions-focused approach
- The ability to remain calm and effective when managing competing priorities and sensitive issues
