Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled Welder to provide vital day-to-day welding and installation support onboard naval ships for various RF, audio, video, and communication systems. This position reports directly to the Installation Group Project Manager.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with Task Leaders, project managers, and subject matter experts to assist with:
• The Shipboard installation and integration of complex audio-visual displays;
• Installation of various communication and electronic warfare systems;
• Support related systems including computer-based installations on naval vessels and command centers worldwide.
• Additional tasks as assigned.
Accountable For:
• We expect familiarity with work performed in industrial environments such as shipyards and military bases, as well as various governmental subcontract sites.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possession or ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
• A high school diploma is mandatory.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% both CONUS and OCONUS.
• Availability to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
• A valid driver's license and dependable transportation are necessary.
• Experience in welding steel and aluminum is required.
• Proven experience in a shipyard environment is a must.
• The ability to layout, perform structural modifications, and install foundations based on SIDs and ICDs.
• Willingness to take on additional installation tasks such as cable installation, priming, lagging, painting, and handling equipment and materials.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test is mandatory.
Preferred:
• Experience with brazing copper nickel pipe and operating Oxy Fuel torches.
• CPR and first aid training experience.
• Confined space training.
• Climber safety training.
Working Conditions:
• This is a full-time position supporting the Chugach integration and installation team. The workplace may include shipyards, Navy and Coast Guard bases, shipboard environments, and shore site locations.
• Work will be conducted in industrial environments and may expose the employee to hazards such as cuts, bruises, and burns.
• Outdoor work may occur in inclement weather conditions.
• Employee may need to work at heights (aloft) and is required to adhere to fall protection protocols.
• Welding and cutting of metal will be part of the duties.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift 45 lbs. and operate heavy machinery safely.
• Capability to perform work at heights.
• Safe operation of power tools.
• Capacity to carry equipment around ships.
• Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the shift.
• Kneel and crawl at work sites as necessary.
• Crouch through voids and safely evacuate during emergencies.
