Position Overview

Join our team at HII's Mission Technologies Division, where we are committed to delivering cutting-edge technologies for national defense. We are seeking a skilled Welder to support our Platform Modernization (PM) teams with submarine alterations and installations. You will collaborate with our talented trades teams on active surface ships, submarines, and shore-based facilities, contributing to critical fleet modernization efforts.

As a Welder, you will travel to shipyards and military bases both domestically and internationally. Our company covers travel, lodging, and provides per diem based on location. If you have a strong welding background and a commitment to quality and safety, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities
• Uphold values of quality, integrity, safety, and respect in all operations.
• Assist trades teams with alterations and installations on surface ships for fleet modernization.
• Conduct work following defined quality and safety procedures.
• Execute a variety of tasks, both routine and complex, related to shipboard maintenance.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering sketches, and work orders.
• Install, operate, maintain, and repair structural and piping elements.
• Prepare parts for welding, including cutting, fitting, and assembling components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions efficiently.
• Engage in special projects as assigned.
• Apply advanced understanding of welding processes for fabrication and repair tasks.
• Create and utilize technical documents, reports, and work packages.
• Inspect completed work for adherence to specifications.
• Maintain customer relationships and communications, including possible training for customer personnel.
• Mentor and lead less-experienced welders, potentially taking on group leadership responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant welding experience.
• Ability to pass qualification testing and demonstrate proficiency in required welding processes.
• Experience with stick welding (SMAW) in all positions is required.
• In-depth understanding of interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.
• Capability to utilize various measuring tools effectively.
• Familiarity with quality control procedures.
• Commitment to safety standards and teamwork.
• Must be eligible for a DoD secret security clearance and maintain it throughout employment.
• Willing to travel 50%-75% of the time when not assigned locally.
• Must supply personal hand tools as per trade requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with gas metal arc welding (GMAW) in all positions is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and/or flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) processes is preferred.
• Current or past welding certification relevant to MIL-STD-248 is a plus.
• Experience on marine vessels and related systems is advantageous.
• Shipfitting experience is highly desired.
• Candidates with shipboard experience will be prioritized.
• Enrollment or completion of a vocational school or skilled trades program is preferred.
• Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate is an advantage.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be capable of lifting and transporting heavy equipment, working in various environmental conditions, navigating ladders, and performing duties in confined spaces. The role may involve exposure to high heat, humidity, and noise. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
