Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Welder II to join our Fleet Services Group, focusing on ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. This position is based in Norfolk, VA and will commence on or around June 2nd.
Key Responsibilities:
• Expertly join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using various welding techniques.
• Perform welding processes to repair, modify, and install pipes, structures, and systems on board ships.
• Fabricate and install fixtures and jigs for precise welding alignments.
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, and diagrams to select the appropriate welding processes.
• Choose suitable welding filler materials, joint designs, and procedures to execute quality welding operations in accordance with TWD.
• Inspect completed welds to ensure structural integrity and compliance with NAVSEA, ABS, and AWS standards.
• Lead technical project teams, manage schedules, and provide reports and updates to customers and management.
• Adapt to various duties beyond specialty to complete installations and assignments.
• Demonstrate experience in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, ship fitting, and OXY ACC & propane gas cutting processes.
• Weld various types and sizes of materials in different positions (horizontal, overhead, vertical).
Experience and Skills Required:
• High school diploma, trade, or vocational school degree.
• 5-10 years of direct experience in ship repair and installation of HM&E systems.
• Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings and NAVSEA Standard Items preferred.
• Must obtain a SECRET clearance and base access credentials.
• Physical capability to lift, carry, and transport items (minimum weight of 30 lbs).
• Comfortable working in confined spaces and on uneven surfaces.
• Willingness to travel within and outside the U.S. as needed.
• Must be a U.S. citizen due to export control regulations.
• Reliable and punctual; demonstrate consistent attendance.
• Possess required welding tools along with some advanced specialized tools.
