Job Overview:
We are actively seeking a skilled and experienced Welder II to join our Fleet Services Group focused on ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. This position is expected to start around June 2nd.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
• Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using suitable welding techniques.
• Perform various welding processes for pipes, structures, foundations, and fittings related to shipboard systems.
• Fabricate and install needed fixtures and jigs for precise welding alignments.
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, and diagrams to determine the correct welding procedures.
• Select the necessary welding filler materials, joint designs, and procedures to ensure quality operations.
• Inspect completed welds for structural integrity and adherence to NAVSEA, ABS & AWS standards.
• Lead technical project teams, manage schedules, and communicate with customers and management.
• Adapt to perform duties outside specialty areas as needed.
• Demonstrate experience in various welding techniques including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, Ship Fitting, and OXY ACC & Propane GAS Cutting.
• Weld different types and sizes of materials in various positions, including horizontal, overhead, and vertical.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
• A high school diploma or equivalent vocational training.
• 5-10 years of relevant experience in ship repair and the installation of HM&E systems.
• The ability to read and interpret installation drawings and specifications.
• The capability to obtain a SECRET clearance and necessary security credentials.
• Demonstrated physical ability to lift, carry, and transport equipment weighing 30 lbs or more.
• Comfort working in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, and in confined spaces.
• The flexibility to travel within and outside the continental United States as required.
• U.S. citizenship due to export control regulations.
• Proven reliability and punctuality in the workplace.
• Access to both basic and advanced welder's tools.
