Position Overview:
Join Colonna's Shipyard as a 1st Class Pipe Welder and contribute your skills to our day shift operations in Norfolk, VA. We're looking for skilled professionals to help us excel in shipbuilding and repair.

Key Responsibilities:
• Expertly weld metal components according to layouts, blueprints, and oral instructions using electric arc-welding equipment.
• Prepare material surfaces by cleaning and ensuring they are free from contaminants prior to welding.
• Perform welding in various positions on at least three base materials through a variety of processes.
• Fabricate complex shapes and structures, including brackets and panels, based on drawings or sketches.
• Utilize equipment such as hydraulic jacks, chain falls, and other tools effectively.
• Carry out repairs on base metal products and welds with minimal intervention to meet specifications.
• Engage in additional welding practices such as air-arc gouging and oxy-acetylene torching.
• Maintain accurate documentation for all welds and components, including job numbers and welder identification.
• Supervise setup of welding equipment, ensuring compliance with welding procedure specifications (WPS).
• Conduct routine maintenance on welding tools and machinery.
• Provide training and mentorship to less-skilled welders, fostering a culture of excellence and safety.
• Perform thorough inspections of all welds and assist in necessary quality assurance processes.
• Execute standard dimensional computations and fabricating techniques to uphold quality and precision.
• Undertake other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
• A minimum of seven (7) years of pipe welding experience is required.
• Proven ability to thrive in physically demanding work environments.
• At least three (3) years of experience with SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) or GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) is necessary.

Desired Skills:
• Certifications in SMAW and GTAW across all positions are preferred.
• Experience in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel pipe is an advantage.

Security Clearance:
Ability to obtain access to government installations (DBIDS) is required.

Travel Requirements:
Minimal travel anticipated (10% or less).

Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift and transport heavy materials up to 20 lbs. Physical agility is required to work in confined spaces, aboard ships, and endure demanding conditions.
