Colonna's Shipyard is looking for a skilled 1st Class Structural Welder to enhance our dynamic team during 2nd Shift operations at our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA. If you are passionate about welding and want to work in an engaging environment, we want to hear from you!

Shift Details:

This position will support 2nd shift operations (3:30PM - 12:00AM).

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform welding tasks on metal components by following layouts, blueprints, and work orders using electric arc-welding equipment.
• Prepare surfaces for welding by cleaning and removing contaminants.
• Execute welds in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
• Utilize different welding methods, including gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, and submerged arc welding.
• Apply filler rods manually and undertake repairs on broken parts.
• Set up welding equipment and select appropriate electrodes for different metals.
• Prepare joints for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes.
• Engage in tasks such as grinding, edge preparation, and using manual and automated equipment.
• Understand and follow safety protocols regarding combustible materials and hot work.
• Label materials accurately with job numbers and other identifiers.
• Wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Welder.
• Ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW.
• Knowledge of welding techniques such as oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, and TIG.
• Proficient in using hand tools and instruments associated with welding.
• Able to work collaboratively with team members.
• Skilled in reading blueprints, sketches, and templates.
• Capable of navigating and working in confined spaces.
• Reliable and consistent attendance is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior technical training is a plus.
• DBIDS eligibility is preferred.

Security Requirements:
• This position requires US Citizenship.

Travel Requirements:
• Minimal travel anticipated; 10% or less.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (minimum of 20 lbs).
• Must be physically agile to perform tasks aboard naval ships and navigate extreme environmental conditions.
• Willing to work in various conditions, including high heat, humidity, and confined spaces.
• Frequent exposure to noise and ability to operate machinery such as trucks and forklifts.
• Frequent use of respiratory protection and personal protective equipment during welding and cutting operations.
