Position Summary

The Physiotherapist (PT) is an integral member of the Physiotherapy service, Allied Health and clinical programs in which care is provided. Through the provision of patient and non-patient care activities, the PT enhances the quality of life of patients by assessing, planning and implementing individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning and cardio-respiratory health, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.

Duties

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Providing assessment, intervention, consultation and education services for patients in the Stroke  Program;
  • Collaborating with inter-professional team in providing patient focused care;
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, colleagues and external stakeholders; developing and implementing creative comprehensive patient-centred care plans based on evidence and Stroke and ABI Best Practice standards;
  • Consulting with internal and external stakeholders regularly to facilitate smooth and timely patient transitions;
  • Facilitating and leading patient groups, as appropriate; participating actively in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the program; participating in professional and organizational initiatives supporting best practice, quality management and research (this may include providing physiotherapy interventions for research projects that are underway);
  • Providing education to students, as appropriate.
  • Completion of Masters Degree or equivalent in Physical Therapy
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Membership in CPA preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (C Level) Heart Saver Plus Canada (on employment)
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience in neuro rehabilitation required; ABI and Stroke population preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written) required
  • Strong customer service focus and excellent problem-solving skills required
  • NDT training is an asset
