Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:
- Own the turboshaft in a complex hybrid powertrain / turbogenerator system
- Manage the turboshaft team, including varied experts on fuel, turbine design, exhaust and thermal etc.
- Ensure the turboshaft can be integrated, tested and certified within our aircraft
- Understand and optimize the turboshaft design for the integrated unit
- Manage technical, certification, program and other risks to ensure we are successful
- Directing turboshaft testing, verification and certification programs
- Defining the wider turboshaft sub-systems and integration challenges to mechanical engineers, systems engineers and others
- Define the strategy for turboshaft and turbogenerator development as well as the wider hybrid-powertrain strategy
What you’ll need:
- BS / MS / PhD in a related scientific or engineering field.
- 10+ years experience in turboshaft design and engine control
- Strong fundamentals and demonstrated understanding of turboshaft operation
- Experience with industry-standard tools, methods and processes
- Ability to do things faster but just as rigorously
- Strong experience with applying Part-33 / CS-E in novel systems programs
- A systematic approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate complex, technical rationale to multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Extremely self-motivated with the ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports and documents.
Nice to have:
- Prior experience with hybrid-electric aircraft, eVTOLs, or hybrid automotive powertrains
- Familiarity with FAA or EASA certification of electric powertrains and propulsion systems
- Knowledge of simulation model validation, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification methods.
