Who are we?
NLC Health Ventures is dedicated to advancing health, making it accessible for everyone. By using entrepreneurship at scale, our unique NLC approach allows us to find inventions and create and support ventures that have the potential to reach the patient. We identify promising innovations at early TRL stages, pair them with entrepreneurial CEOs and empower them to drive their start-ups from incorporation to exit, emphasising the critical role of attracting investment along the way. With a proven track record of building 100+ ventures in just seven years, we are primed for accelerated growth and impact.
As we grow, the supply of talent must keep pace, and a Venture Developer who can seamlessly balance their expertise between general healthtech (50%) and a specialized focus on our Surgery cluster (50%).
Your role
Together with your colleagues and our dedicated network, you ensure we identify the right problems and select the best technologies to build a venture. You will make sure we select the best technologies by developing and maintaining relationships with scientific institutes and corporates across Europe and the United States. You will have a leading role in venture building, from scouting inventions to the founding of the venture.
Activities include
- Sourcing technologies: visiting conferences, building relationships with clinicians, universities and corporates.
- Selecting the best technologies by supporting the team to analyse thousands of innovative technologies every year: performing technology, market, and competitive analyses with the support of internal and external experts.
- Building ventures: support in setting up licensing term sheets, in selecting the right CEO for the venture, and in ensuring a smooth setup of new ventures.
- You will play a pivotal role in building up the Surgery cluster at NLC by growing our knowledge of needs and trends in this field, fostering an ecosystem of diverse experts, and supporting our minimally invasive surgery and neurotech ventures.
- You will also play a central role in continuously improving the quality, speed, and efficiency of the NLC venture building process, both in the MedTech domain and specifically within the Cardiovascular cluster.
Your profile
- Required:
- Academic Master’s degree in a relevant field e.g., biomedical engineering, robotics, minimally invasive technologies, etc.
- Experience in a fast-moving project-based environment that requires quick turnaround timelines.
- Ability to dive deeply and quickly into unfamiliar technology areas and translate complex technical concepts into non-technical informative summaries.
- Ability to evaluate technologies within their financial, economic, or commercial contexts.
- Ability to evaluate substantial amounts of information quickly and effectively, draw conclusions, and make decisions with imperfect information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders (including physicians, scientists, industry players, investors, licensing/commercial specialists).
- Curious, out-of-the-box thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Fluent in English.
- Highly desirable:
- Background in the healthtech sector, either in an early-stage or growth venture, with a venture builder, or VC.
- Familiar with medical device product development pathways, regulated environment manufacturing, and/or healthtech strategy.
- Open to relocating to the Netherlands.
- Desirable:
- Experience in surgical environments.
We offer
- A full-time key position in our rapidly growing company, with plenty of flexibility.
- A chance to step into the new and fast-growing market of international healthtech venture building, in a position from which you can boost NLC’s ventures and influence their course.
- An inspiring learning-by-doing environment where you’ll have a lot of autonomy to pick your best personal development route, with the level of support you require to be successful.
- The opportunity to become part of the NLC network, a large, valuable, and diverse network ranging from 1000+ medical doctors and brilliant inventors to Corporate Partners like Philips, Terumo, and Medtronic.
