Job description
About us
inBeat is a performance creative agency. We sit inside the Fieldtrip portfolio alongside Content Allies, Creative Milkshake, and 9AM, and we build campaigns that move numbers for consumer and B2B brands across the world.
We are growing fast. We are integrating acquisitions. And the finance function needs someone who can hold all of that together without losing the thread.
The role
This is a full-time, fully remote role based anywhere in Canada (Ideally QC) and reports directly to the CFO.
We are looking for a Controller who can own accounting operations, payroll, and month-end close across a portfolio of Canadian and US entities. You will lead a small finance operations team of 7, run intercompany reconciliations across CAD and USD, and design a close process that actually closes on time.
This is a hands-on role. You will be in QuickBooks Online one hour and rebuilding the close calendar the next. The right person for this role is comfortable with both.
What you'll do
- Own the month-end close across all entities, with a target of business day 10
- Run payroll across Canadian and US entities, including all remittances, year-end filings, and platform administration (Deel and equivalent)
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across CAD and USD
- Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements for the CFO and ownership
- Lead a small team of bookkeepers, AR/AP specialists, and payroll administration
- Manage GST/QST/HST, US sales tax, SR&ED, and corporate tax compliance alongside external accountants
- Build a finance operations playbook in Notion that the team can run on
- Support M&A and integration work as we scale
What we're looking for
You are a CPA who has run finance operations inside a real business, not just audited one from the outside. You know what a clean close looks like, because you have built one. You can read a P&L for a service business and tell us what to fix.
You have worked across multiple entities and multiple currencies. You know Canadian payroll cold and you can hold your own on the US side. You write SOPs because they make your life easier, not because someone told you to.
Must-haves
- CPA designation (Canadian)
- Fully bilingual in French and English, written and spoken
- Based in Canada
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant
- Direct experience in an agency, professional services, or media/marketing services environment
- Hands-on multi-entity payroll experience across Canadian and US jurisdictions
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
- Multi-entity, multi-currency accounting experience (CAD/USD)
- Solid grasp of Quebec and Canadian tax compliance (GST/QST, T2, T4/T4A, T5, RL-1)
- Working understanding of US tax compliance
While not required, it's an added plus if you also have
- Experience with intercompany frameworks, transfer pricing, and management service agreements (MISA)
- Revenue recognition experience for retainer and performance-based service engagements
- Experience integrating acquired entities, including chart of accounts mapping and opening balance work
- Familiarity with Notion, Deel, and modern finance tooling
- Track record operating in a remote, distributed team across time zones
Why join us?
- Fully remote work from anywhere in Canada
- Competitive base salary and annual performance bonus
- Group benefits and unlimited PTO + Sick Pay
- Direct exposure to executive leadership, M&A activity, and integration work
- A growing finance team with clear paths to grow into
- Low bureaucracy. High ownership. You will not be waiting for permission to fix things
