Job description

Opportunity
At Maersk, we are transforming global trade. As part of this journey, we are strengthening how we manage complex regulatory risks in an increasingly dynamic geopolitical landscape.
We are looking for a Regional Compliance Manager to join our Sanctions & Export Controls team. In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor to the business; supporting high-impact, complex activities and helping ensure that we operate responsibly while enabling growth.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of compliance, commercial strategy, and global affairs, with a particular focus on defense-related activities and sensitive markets.
What You’ll Do
  • Provide expert guidance on complex sanctions and export controls matters, including defence-related business activities
  • Partner with commercial teams to support bids for government and non-government contracts, positioning compliance as a value driver
  • Assess and manage regulatory risks related to controlled, sensitive, and defence-related commodities
  • Enable risk-based decision-making across transactions, customers, routes, and markets
  • Monitor geopolitical and regulatory developments, translating them into clear, actionable insights for the business
  • Advise on sensitive and high-profile topics, including matters relating to blocking statutes and human rights, supporting senior leadership and investor-facing discussions
  • Support the management of reputational risks and stakeholder-sensitive issues
  • Collaborate closely with Legal, Compliance, and business stakeholders to ensure aligned and responsible operations
Who You Are
  • An experienced compliance professional with strong expertise in sanctions, export controls, or financial crime
  • Comfortable operating in complex, high-risk, and fast-evolving environments
  • Bringing experience from logistics, shipping, defence, or other highly regulated industries (preferred)
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to balance risk management and business priorities
  • Insightful on geopolitical developments and their business impact
  • A strong communicator who can translate complexity into clear and practical guidance
  • Confident engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across a global organisation
