Job description
Process Sciences is a technical services department that deals with a range of scientific, technical, engineering and mathematical needs from the laboratory to the manufacturing floor. Within this department, the aim of the Process Solutions team is to identify and implement process improvements at large scale commercial manufacturing to increase product yield and maintain consistency.
As a Process Sciences Associate within Upstream a typical day might include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Supporting manufacturing operations by assisting with investigations and performing technical evaluations.
- Perform small scale mammalian cell culture and purification studies at the 2L scale to assess process quality and performance.
- Trending and evaluating site process and product data using statistical and multivariate analysis techniques to ensure appropriate product and process quality and performance are maintained.
- Support scientific investigations related to upstream unit operations of biologics manufacturing processes. Studies will be conducted in small-sale bioreactors at the 2L scale using Design of Experiments (DOE) or other experimental principles.
- Support all activities to ensure that scientific investigations are planned and coordinated cross-functionally, and executed effectively.
- Carry out small-scale process validation studies.
- Assist in the analysis of samples generated from lab scale studies.
- Develop and writes protocols for small-scale process validation studies.
- Tabulate results and writes summary reports of process evaluation and validation studies.
- Perform cGMP cell banking.
- Present findings at group and possibly at interdepartmental meetings.
- Maintain lab supplies and equipment.
- Produce and maintain accurate records.

Education and Experience
- Requires BS/BA in Life sciences/Engineering or related field. May consider another degree discipline with relevant experience; cGMP experience is desirable.
