Job description
The Head of Department (Occupational Therapy) provides academic and professional leadership for the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy program, ensuring that curriculum, delivery, and student outcomes meet the requirements of the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA), the Occupational Therapy Council (OTC), and broader health sector expectations.
Help build a new accredited OT program and influence the next generation of occupational therapists!
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the academic quality, accreditation compliance, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy program in alignment with OTBA and OTC standards.
- Oversee curriculum, assessment, simulation, and practice education to ensure graduates are practice-ready, culturally responsive, and professionally competent.
- Provide leadership, support, and performance oversight for academic staff to deliver a high-quality and consistent student experience across all delivery modes.
- Monitor student progression, fitness for practice, and professional conduct, ensuring appropriate support, academic integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to academic governance and stakeholder engagement through collaboration with industry, placement providers, professional bodies, and internal leadership teams.
- PhD qualified in Occupational Therapy or a related Allied Health discipline, with academic leadership experience consistent with Academic Level C or above.
- Strong higher education experience across teaching, curriculum development, assessment, and quality assurance.
- Sound understanding of OTC accreditation standards, academic governance, and regulatory requirements within occupational therapy education.
- Proven ability to lead and support academic staff while driving positive student, academic, and organisational outcomes.
- Demonstrated scholarly or research engagement, strong stakeholder management skills, and occupational therapy registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy has been accredited by TEQSA and is currently progressing through approval processes with OTC. Expressions of interest welcome with appointment to the position being made upon course approval by OTC.
As part of this recruitment process you will need:
- WWCC Employee or willingness to obtain
- Australian Federal Police check (covered by AIPC)
